Last week some of you noticed my hesitation when you asked “What’s new?” Some of you noticed the change in my availability come the fall and as one of you remarked “It looks like too much time off to be something fun, like a vacation.”
Unfortunately it isn’t something fun
Last November my retinal specialist saw two new tumors in my left eye. I wasn’t shocked as the ability to see gross movement in bright light had degraded to seeing black or blackest black. This happened for two reasons, one being you can’t see through tumors. The other is because the tumors are putting pressure on the retina, causing partial detachment. That being said, the eye health was stable. We decided we would revisit things in the spring, I knew surgery was a possibility. Spring came and I went for a check up, it showed everything was still stable and he said “We won’t do surgery” I optimistically heard a period at the end of his sentence. It turns out it was a comma followed by a silent “Yet.”
When I went in a couple of weeks ago I was told the tumors were threatening the health of my eye. I have been here before, this will be the sixth major surgery on my left eye and fourth of this kind. The show eye takes work and needs to go in for maintenance. 😜 It is urgent, not emergent and I requested a fall date to give myself a chance to enjoy a bit more of summer and get prepared. It is tentatively scheduled for the end of September, I will let you know when I have an exact date and update my schedule accordingly. That’s the answer to “What’s new?”
I wish I could tell all of you personally but I’m having a hard time maintaining my composure, it can be trying telling and retelling this information so I felt a post was best.
It’s life as usual in the meantime and I’m happily working, you can schedule online or message me. For those of you who like to book in advance I am scheduling for December. 💛
