I’m back, in more ways than one!
After some time off to convalesce from eye surgery I am back to work. The surgery was successful and we, especially me, are happy with the results. It’s great to get back to doing massage, it’s kind of my thing. Speaking of which while I was off the 20 year anniversary of my registration passed. 🥳💃🏻🎉🍾
I am also back to working out and joyful about it. By that I mean back to tackling “The Hundred” again. I haven’t been able to get back to regular exercise let alone The 💯 since my kidney surgery 18 months ago. I have missed it for so many reasons. It’s an outlet, a coping mechanism and a source of empowerment. As an added bonus it helps make massaging easier.
Being back to routine, to working out, seeing you, it is all very positive. If you haven’t already you can schedule your appointment online, DM, text or call. 💛

Thank you everyone for your comments, prayer and conversations about anything but VHL these last few weeks 💛 I was feeling quite overwhelmed and emotional until last week when I had an “Everything for a reason” moment that came with a peaceful acceptance. I’m ready.
As I mentioned in my previous post I had a tentative date for the end of this month. The first date I was given was rescheduled to today. When I called Friday to confirm I was informed that because of limited OR hours and the back up of patients my surgery is currently cancelled with no new date. This is discouraging but beyond my control, I will follow up with them in a couple of weeks. I am back to my regular schedule for now. You can message me or use the link in my bio to schedule online. I look forward to seeing you again, it will be like I never left 😉

Last week some of you noticed my hesitation when you asked “What’s new?” Some of you noticed the change in my availability come the fall and as one of you remarked “It looks like too much time off to be something fun, like a vacation.”
Unfortunately it isn’t something fun
Last November my retinal specialist saw two new tumors in my left eye. I wasn’t shocked as the ability to see gross movement in bright light had degraded to seeing black or blackest black. This happened for two reasons, one being you can’t see through tumors. The other is because the tumors are putting pressure on the retina, causing partial detachment. That being said, the eye health was stable. We decided we would revisit things in the spring, I knew surgery was a possibility. Spring came and I went for a check up, it showed everything was still stable and he said “We won’t do surgery” I optimistically heard a period at the end of his sentence. It turns out it was a comma followed by a silent “Yet.”
When I went in a couple of weeks ago I was told the tumors were threatening the health of my eye. I have been here before, this will be the sixth major surgery on my left eye and fourth of this kind. The show eye takes work and needs to go in for maintenance. 😜 It is urgent, not emergent and I requested a fall date to give myself a chance to enjoy a bit more of summer and get prepared. It is tentatively scheduled for the end of September, I will let you know when I have an exact date and update my schedule accordingly. That’s the answer to “What’s new?”
I wish I could tell all of you personally but I’m having a hard time maintaining my composure, it can be trying telling and retelling this information so I felt a post was best.
It’s life as usual in the meantime and I’m happily working, you can schedule online or message me. For those of you who like to book in advance I am scheduling for December. 💛

Walking out of major surgery like...
Who am I kidding?

I know today is Orange Shirt Day, it is also Rare Cancer Day. The latter hits closer to home especially as three weeks ago I had surgery to remove tumors from my left kidney. It went well but it was tough, there was some ugly crying. That’s VHL.
The tumors that were resected were donated for the purpose of research towards finding treatments and cures for all types of cancer. That’s VHL
Thanks to the support of the amazing staff and the love of family and friends I made it through the tough days. I was elated to see that exit sign and I’m happy to be recovering comfortably at home as well as relieved to have this taken care of.

Dear Valued Clients, the past couple of months we have all been affected, in different ways by I know I have missed being able to work and many of you have missed being able to receive treatments. On May 27th Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health issued Directive #2 for Health Care Providers which reflects a gradual restart of deferred services including massage therapy. The gradual restart must be carried out in coordination with and adherence to guidance from regulatory bodies. Currently, I am assessing required protocols I received today from the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. The process of evaluating and incorporating new protocols will take some time. I am working towards a soft start date of June 8th at Grottola’s.
I appreciate your patience and cooperation as I implement the new standards and modifications. My commitment is to ensure both our safety during the delivery of treatment. Please keep in mind there will be changes, appointment times will be limited and new considerations will include:

• updated cleaning and disinfecting protocols
• wearing personal protective equipment (both you and me)
• additional screening and consent.

I will post an update with further information in the coming days and look forward to safely returning to practice. 💛

I am this afternoon giving everything a once over aka cleaning and disinfecting. It is a routine for me before I start work on Mondays and in between every appointment. These protocols are not only important but necessary and are always in place for health care providers no matter the current state of affairs. I want to reassure you I do my utmost to provide your treatment in a clean and safe environment. I also always wear gloves because of my tender hands and sensitivities and I have extras if you decide you would like to wear gloves too. Obviously, do not come in for treatment if you have any cold or flu symptoms. Again, I think this is a given at anytime. If you have questions or concerns please reach out to me. In the meantime

Good morning! Yesterday’s surgery was a success and I am doing well for my circumstances. Thank you again for your encouragement, positivity and prayers. 💛

Thank you for you offers of support, encouragement and prayers over the last few weeks. Today has been an emotional rollercoaster and I have some bad, good and great news. The bad news is today’s surgery was cancelled, the good news is they have graciously made changes so I could be rescheduled to tomorrow 🤞🏻. The great news is I was postponed for an emergency kidney transplant which means someone will have better health (perhaps their life was even saved by this transplant) and their family will have the relief and joy that comes with it. Please take a moment to direct the positivity and prayers you have been saying for me to the patient and family of the transplant. Thank you 💛

I will be taking a leave of absence from September 25th to January 7th, 2019. Unfortunately the timing of this news doesn’t allow me to tell everyone personally, I appreciate you being understanding about this. Please message me if you need a referral to an interim massage therapist. If there are any changes or updates to this information it will be posted here. 💛

I set aside some time this morning to make “Liquid Sunshine”. It is an essential oil synergy I originally blended as a treatment aid for a client with Raynaud’s. I received so much positive feedback that it now has a permanent place in my treatment bag and I get to enjoy the peaceful pursuit of making it for you. 💛
