One of the most significant observations I was hoping to make with Lami-TAG digital pulse sensor was an immediate change in the digital pulse after the application of an orthotic (in this case MoreAid Squish pads) on laminitic cases in the acute phase.

This particular horse showed an immediate decrease in digital pulse which leads me to believe there was a positive change in circulation. This observation is of course, anecdotal without a venogram validation but it does seem to suggest there has been some change.

Here is some important data we received using a gait analysis system at a presentation/clinic I gave I thought was important to share.

This horse was barefoot, we did a gait analysis on the horse presented, then we taped a 6 degree wedge pad to his right front and did another gait analysis.

The resulting compensatory changes in not only the right front but in the rest of the horse was quite dramatic as you can see in the photos below which are only a fraction of the information gait analysis provides us.

Among other compensatory changes here are some highlights:
Wedged foot (right front): you can see the landing is much further back and then shifts caudally prior to loading.
Left hind: in the Ring of Werkman you can see the response after wedging with extremely unstable landing to midstance phase (arrow pointing to that) and the right hind landing more dorsal.

Whole horse compensatory changes must always be taken into consideration on every horse we work on to ensure any anatomical, biomechanical and both static AND dynamic action vs reaction effect results in a positive change for the horse.
