Take Care of Your Wounds – Especially If You Have Diabetes

People with diabetes need to take extra care of any cuts, blisters, or wounds.
Because diabetes can slow healing and reduce feeling in your feet or hands, even a small wound can become serious if it’s not treated quickly.
Tips for good wound care:
*Check your feet and skin every day for cuts, blisters, or sores.
*Wash wounds gently with clean water and mild soap.
*Keep wounds covered with a clean, dry dressing.
*Avoid walking barefoot.

See a doctor or nurse right away if a wound is red, swollen, or not healing.

Taking good care of wounds helps prevent infection and protects your health.

Thank you Dave for sharing these photos of area residents who have been able to find a pair of stylish shoes which we donated to Trinity United Church. So happy to help out.

Big shoutout to Dave who does volunteer at Trinity United Church. He dropped by the Lab last week to pick up around 3 dozens pairs of new and slightly used shoes for donation to the most vulnerable amongst us. He has seen many that go without footwear right here in this city. We are happy to help our community in our own little way.

Ever wonder what makes Certified Orthotists so good at fabricating custom made foot orthotics? It’s the time honoured technique of hand casting of the feet that sets us apart. A proper assessment prior to casting includes determining each person’s “neutral” foot alignment. The 3D shape capture is a learned skill in itself and the start of a perfect pair of foot orthotics.
