Today is National Living Donor Day — a day to recognize the extraordinary generosity of those who choose to give the gift of life.

At Neptune, we know firsthand the meaning of being a living donor. Our President, Megan Owen-Evans, is a two-time living organ donor, anonymously donating a kidney in 2013 and two-thirds of her liver in 2022, moved by a deep belief in the difference one person can make in another's life.

As she shared in a 2019 interview with BC Transplant: "It feels special knowing that I made somebody's quality of life better. I love sharing my story and what motivated me to donate anonymously because it allows me to educate people on being a living donor."

As a member of the Living Donor Circle of Excellence, Neptune Terminals is committed to supporting employees who choose to become living donors by covering lost wages during testing, surgery, and recovery — because financial uncertainty should never stand in the way of someone choosing to donate.

With over 600 British Columbians currently waiting for a transplant, every donor makes a difference. Learn more through the link in the first comment.

Take a look at one of our shiploaders in action — moving steelmaking coal into the vessel's cargo holds via a system of conveyor belts.

Once coal trains are unloaded on site, the coal is either stockpiled or moved directly onto conveyor belts by large machines called stacker reclaimers, which feed the shiploaders at the berth.

Neptune operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — and on average, it takes about three days to load a steelmaking coal vessel.

Supporting girls in baseball, lowering barriers to entry, and creating pathways for them to stay in the sport have never been more important as a movement on the North Shore is gaining real momentum to keep girls in baseball.

We are proud to support the West Vancouver Little League as they work to build those pathways — through affordable clinics led by female coaches, and a dedicated division just for girls, ensuring young players have role models to look up to on the field.

The D5 Lionesses are proof of what's possible. Last year, they proudly won the Baseball BC summer league — and registration for the upcoming season is now open.

Ever wondered where ships actually dock when they arrive at a terminal like Neptune?

That spot is called a berth — a dedicated space where a vessel pulls in to be loaded or unloaded, and at Neptune, we have three, each serving a different purpose for our operations.

Berth 1 is dedicated to steelmaking coal and can handle Capesize vessels — some of the largest ships on the water. So large, in fact, that they are too big to go through the Panama Canal and must travel around the southern tips of Africa or South America to reach their destination.

Berths 2 and 3 are dedicated to potash loading. While Berth 2 is the busiest potash berth in Canada, Berth 3 serves smaller, more flexible vessels, connecting Canadian potash to ports around the world that have size restrictions.

With more than 300 ships loaded at Neptune each year, our berths are always busy moving Canadian resources to markets around the world.

Next time you're looking across the water, see if you can spot one of these ships at our berths.

We are proud to stand alongside Pathways Serious Mental Illness Society as a Premier Sponsor of the 2026 Circle of Strength, their annual fundraising luncheon taking place on Saturday, April 11.

Now in its 16th year, the Circle of Strength brings together the community in support of families and friends caring for a loved one with serious mental illness. This year, the event aims to raise $100,000 to continue expanding peer support, one-to-one guidance, and education programs across the North Shore, Sea to Sky, and throughout BC, helping to bring guidance and resources to caregivers of mentally ill loved ones.

Our partnership with Pathways goes beyond this event as we have had the privilege of welcoming them into our workplace to share resources and support with our staff.

The Circle of Strength helps raise awareness of the real challenges families face when a loved one lives with serious mental illness, and the difference that access to the right guidance and community can make.

There is still time to reserve your spot — registration closes tomorrow, April 3.

Say hello to Jennifer Sartorius, one of our newest team members.

Jennifer joined Neptune this January as a Maintenance Superintendent, bringing more than 30 years of maintenance experience and a background as a millwright by trade. For her, joining Neptune was an opportunity to take on something new while staying close to home — a combination of professional growth and personal stability she describes as a "great opportunity."

So far, the transition has been a positive one. "The team is so strong already, and everyone is friendly and willing to share their knowledge," she shares. "There are more women working here than I've ever seen in my 30-year career. It's great to see such a progressive work environment."

We're glad to have you on the team, Jennifer.

We're honoured to be returning as a sponsor of the 15th Annual Rotary Ride for Rescue.

Taking place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, on Cypress Mountain, this fundraiser brings together elite cyclists and recreational riders of all ages in support of North Shore Rescue, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue 1, and other causes supported by the Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise.

Participants can take on the timed 17 km road route up Cypress Bowl Road or the 11.5 km off-road mountain trail. A great challenge for a great cause.

Registration is now open — learn more and register through the link in the comments.

The first edition of Neptune News for 2026 is out.

This month we're highlighting the people and community initiatives helping shape the future of our waterfront and the North Shore community — from celebrating women in waterfront industries, including a welcome to one of our new team members, Jennifer Sartorius, to supporting youth leadership through the Community Initiatives and Leadership program at Carson Graham Secondary School, and helping keep girls in baseball through the D5 Lionesses on the North Shore.

March 22 marks World Water Day, a global reminder of the importance of protecting one of our planet’s most vital natural resources.

For those of us working on the waterfront, water is not just a natural resource — it is the foundation of our operations.

Located on Burrard Inlet, Neptune Terminals is committed to operating responsibly in the marine environment through spill prevention measures, environmental monitoring, and close collaboration with port partners. As part of our operational water management practices, we recycle approximately 5.5 million litres of water on site each year, with all water treated before it leaves the terminal.

Today is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of safeguarding the waterways that support global trade, local communities, and marine ecosystems.

As we continue to celebrate the impact of women in our industry this March, we're proud to share this feature on our President, Megan Owen-Evans, who was recently profiled by Means & Ways in recognition of International Women’s Day.

She shares her journey from starting as a labourer at Cascadia Terminal in 1997 to leading Neptune today, a career she loves that spans nearly 30 years.

In the interview, she speaks to the role of resilient supply chains in Canada's economic future, from the importance of building new trade partnerships and leveraging Canada's natural resources, to the need for cooperation across provinces and industries to meet the demands of the next decade, as well as what it will take to create workplaces in the waterfront where more women feel welcome and can see what's possible for their own careers.
