Today, November 8, on Indigenous Veterans Day, we honour our living and late səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) veterans for their service and the many thousands of Indigenous service members across Turtle Island who sacrificed to protect us.

This is also an opportunity to teach the next Tsleil-Waututh generations about the history of service of our Nation, so our veterans' stories are not forgotten.

Each year salmon are welcomed back to our waters. This year, səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) Field Crew staff observed the return of a healthy pink salmon run in xʔəl̓ilwətaʔɬ (Indian River). The bears and wolves have had a feast on the salmon. The Field Crew’s fishery work will continue until the new year, with chum starting to make their way up right now, followed by the coho in the coming months.

Keep an eye out for more crew updates and read more about this work: https://twnation.ca/the-return-of-the-salmon/

səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) Response to Fraudulent Letter regarding Indigenous Land and Title

There is a fraudulent letter being circulated as if it were from the City of North Vancouver – and possibly other governments – regarding Indigenous land and title. The letter mirrors the one that Richmond property owners recently received from the City of Richmond.

This letter was not issued by the City of North Vancouver and not endorsed by səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).

If you have received this letter or see it online, please disregard.

Water Quality Work in the Territory by the Treaty, Lands, and Resources (TLR) Department

səlilwətaɬ has a profound obligation to both our Ancestors and future generations to protect and care for our water, land, air, and resources. Our teams within the Treaty, Lands, and Resources (TLR) Department combine Indigenous and western science, and lead many research, policy, and restoration projects to help clean up səlilwət (Burrard Inlet).

Graphic features illustrations by Tsleil-Waututh artists Candace Thomas, Jordan Gallie and Olivia George.

Learn more about our work to heal səlilwət, including our work to improve the Inlet's water quality, at https://twnation.ca/tlrstewardship/
