I look forward to 2025. It is a monumental event of the year. Featuring the skill and beauty of 30+ accomplished Indigenous fashion designers from across Turtle Island. Fashion is more than a beautiful outfit to Indigenous people. Each item has a story of significance. Each bead, each sequence, and each stitch represents a memory. As a way to continue our cultural practices and while continuing life in a modern era. The market at VIFW is the ultimate place to buy yourself something beautiful and something special for your loved ones. Each year I have the honour to MC The Red Dress Gala. The red dress symbolizes the thousands of Indigenous women who have went missing or have been murdered. This night aims to bring awareness to this national crisis. We ask that people attending all wear red in solidarity. We honoured the families that have endured these atrocities. With the hopes of inspiring people to help with this cause. Nobody should be taken from this world too soon. We all deserve justice and freedom. Please come and join us in this beautiful celebration of strength and love.

A letter from my dad Good morning Beautiful family.
Sharing a picture of my dad. He was Lorne Whitten Nahanee. He is in the centre of this image using crutches. This a clipping from a photo of the Squamish Indian Band Council. He was a forty years old in this photo. He was elected by acclamation at a general meeting of the Squamish people. He was elected to a council of chiefs. He was the only person nominated so he was acclaimed the winner. It was the only time this happened in a Council election.
When he was around ten years old he was attending St. Paul’s Indian Residential School on Ustlahan in North Vancouver. He contracted polio. The nuns in charge fail to get him to a hospital to be treated until it was too late. He said it was excruciating pain and he screamed. The nuns and priest said it was the will of God. What kind of of an as***le does that to a child. I will never forgive the church of government for what they did to dad.
I love you. I tried my best to keep you from harms way.
