Confession time… even vet techs learn lessons the hard way. 🫣

Central Vet RVT here.. and yes, Harper is my dog. A couple years ago I told myself, “She’s a city dog. Fenced yard. Sidewalk strolls. We’re fine.” So I skipped spring tick prevention (March–May).

Plot twist: we were not fine. 😅

At her routine heartworm/tick disease blood test in April, Harper came back positive for anaplasma.. meaning she’d been exposed to an infected tick. I had never seen a single tick on her.

Thankfully, because we tested, I knew early. I monitored her closely and she never developed active anaplasmosis. Huge sigh of relief. 😮‍💨 But trust me, I won’t skip spring prevention again.

If this surprised you, you’re not alone. Ticks don’t care if your dog hikes mountains or strolls sidewalks. They just need one opportunity.

✨ Our recommendations:
• Tick prevention: March–November
• Heartworm prevention: June–November
• Heartworm/tick disease blood test: mid-April

And speaking of prevention… ⏳ there are only a few days left to take advantage of our heartworm & tick prevention promotion! When you purchase your pet’s full season of prevention, you’re automatically entered to WIN the full cost back.

Yes, free prevention. We love that for you. 👏

Must.. stay.. awake.. 🐶💤

Krypto stole everyone’s hearts at the clinic when he came in for surgery on his tail after sustaining a “happy tail” injury. Yes, dogs can literally injure their tail from being too happy and wagging too much. 🥺

He was a true superhero and we’re all wishing him a speedy recovery. 🦸

“The person who…” RVT edition. 🐾✨

The person who always brought home “just one more” stray.
The person who turned stuffed animals into patients.
The person who knew, even then, that animals would be part of their story.

Fast forward a few years (and a whole lot of hard work)…

Now they’re the ones monitoring every heartbeat in surgery. The ones placing the IVs, running the labs, and catching the tiny details others might miss. The reassuring voice in the treatment area. The steady hands in recovery.

From first puppy visits to critical care moments, they’re there through it all. 🤍

Our Hospital Assistant l, Makayla getting a Balto bear hug 🐻💛

Balto may be a large boy, but don’t let the size fool you, he’s 100% marshmallow on the inside. Shiloh Shepherds are known for their loyalty, and this sweet boy proves that sometimes the biggest pups give the best cuddles.

Friendly reminder: Just over a week left to enter our win back the cost of your heartworm/tick prevention promotion! 🎉 Don’t miss your chance to protect your pet and possibly win your money back.

Kiki Rose, the sweetest English Bulldog, hasn’t been wanting to eat, so we took a closer look. 👀

With small animal endoscopy, Dr. Marks and his team are able to investigate GI concerns from the inside and get real answers without major surgery. 🙌🏼 For patients like Kiki, that means a clearer diagnosis and a more targeted treatment plan.

If your pet has ongoing vomiting, appetite changes, or a “sensitive stomach,” inquire with us about this service through the link in our bio, we’re here to help.

“The person who..” DVM edition. 🥺

Before the degrees, the long nights, and the emergency calls… they were just kids who loved animals. 🐾

Now they’re the steady hands in surgery, the calm voice on hard days, and the ones who celebrate every win — big or small. 🩺✨

Our doctors at Central Vet don’t just practice medicine. They stay late. They double-check. They carry the tough cases home in their hearts. They truly love their patients — whether they’re 10 pounds or 1,500. 🐶🐄

This is the human side of veterinary medicine. 🤍

When the phone rings and it’s a horse that won’t stop rolling… we move. Fast. 🐎💨

Colic isn’t something we “wait and see” with as it can turn serious quickly, and every minute matters. That’s why our large animal team is ready to head out around the clock. Early assessment and treatment can make all the difference, and we take that responsibility seriously every single time.

If your horse is showing signs of colic such as rolling, pawing, looking at their flank, not eating, call us immediately. Trust your gut. We’d always rather check and catch it early.

Save our number now so you have it when you need it. 📞 204-275-2038. Have questions or concerns about your horse? You can also chat with a member of our team directly through the Central Vet app (available anywhere you get your apps).
