A lovely diagram made by the Lipedema Foundation that we just had to share.

Lipedema is often diagnosed as obesity, when in fact it’s more than that. It is a CHRONIC condition that occurs almost exclusively in women and presents as a symmetrical buildup of painful fat and swelling in the limbs (excluding hands and feet).

The goals of treatment are first and foremost to find a lymphedema therapist and start to manage inflammation and swelling. From there your therapist will recommend compression garments and/or wraps to help manage the condition at home. Treatments should be thought of as lifestyle changes, such as nutrition and moderate exercise, managing swelling with compression and lymphatic drainage. The diagram shows you other ways of coping as well.

Axillary Web Syndrome or Cording. What is it? 🤔

This is a condition that sometimes happens after breast cancer surgery, usually after dissecting lymph nodes.

Surgery may damage the connective tissue surrounding the lymph vessels which causes it to harden and feel like cords or webbing going down the arm.

Symptoms include:

🔹Pain and tightness, making it difficult to lift your arm
🔹Limited range of motion

Manage your symptoms by doing stretch and range of motion exercises, manual therapy, moist heat. Research has also shown that manual lymphatic drainage combined with manual exercise has been very beneficial for a lot of women.

About Us

Klara Ric and Tavia Wilson, started their journey in Manual Lymph Drainage, in Oakville, back in 2016. Soon after their completion of Combined Decongestive Therapy, also known as Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), it was clear that there is more to MLD then just treating someone with Lymphedema. Further education, research and courses were needed in order to provide the best care to the patients. Along with this, the best products needed to be brought in so that the patients were offered choices. With experience in treating patients with lymphedema, Klara and Tavia began taking more workshops, started to reach out to different companies and communities in order to work together and bring more knowledge and products to the area.

Over the years, we consistently hear our patients tell us that they had no idea that there was treatment available for those with Lymphedema, or garments to help with their condition.

We listened. We heard you. And now we bring you The Lymph Clinic.

Our mission is not only to educate you on what Lymphedema is, but also provide you with the best treatments of care and fit you with the proper garments for your condition.
