Hearing aids work by amplifying the sound coming into your ear. Every hearing aid has a microphone which picks up sound from outside the ear. The sound is then amplified by the hearing aid and then sent into your ear through a speaker.
Many hearing aids now are digital which means we can adjust specific frequencies where you might need more or less amplification. This is why a recent hearing test is so important because then we can calibrate the hearing aid to fit your exact pattern of hearing loss!
Your hearing aid could have multiple listening programs that specialize in different environments. These programs can be tuned for situations where there might be a lot of background noise like in a mall, or for situations where there is little background noise like your bedroom. Ménière’s disease is a chronic condition caused by abnormal fluid buildup in the inner ear. It most commonly appears during young to middle adulthood but could occur at any age and presents in only one ear.
Common symptoms include spells of vertigo which come and go without warning. You might also experience hearing loss typically in the low and/or high frequencies. Other symptoms include tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and a feeling of fullness in the ear.
