A Mole Mobile Patient Story ✨ A Spot That Wouldn’t Heal: Kitty’s Journey from Screening to Treatment.

"I had not been to a dermatologist in years. In the past, I had had one biopsy on my nose which turned out to be actinic keratosis. However, for a few months in 2025 I had a concern about a small spot on my nostril which was not healing."

"Dr. Kossintseva was lovely and looked at a mole, the problem spot I identified. She also spotted a suspected area on my neck. She then gave me a detailed copy of a form with diagram of her observations to give to my family doctor."

My Skin Care Journey: A Mole Mobile Story

"In July 2025, I saw a Facebook post about a Mole Mobile clinic coming to Wasaga Beach, about one-hour drive from my home. I had recently noticed a new area of concern on my forehead, so I decided to make the journey – good thing that I did.

At the Mole Mobile, I met with a Dermatologist and shared my history and concerns. After a careful assessment, six areas of concern were identified – three on my back that I could not see myself, and three on my face. Despite how busy the clinic was, time was taken to thoroughly examine my skin."

Advocating for My Skin Health: A Mole Mobile Story

“As a child, I spent countless hours outdoors and in pools and sunscreen wasn’t part of the routine back then. Decades later, I have many moles and a history of basal cell carcinoma, but life and work often took priority over my skin health.

When I tried returning to dermatologists, appointments felt rushed and focused on cosmetic procedures. I knew there had to be a better way.

Then I discovered the Mole Mobile. Volunteers provided a full-body skin check, addressed all my concerns, and helped detect basal cell carcinoma on my shoulder and Bowen disease on my legs. Early detection made all the difference."

Is it a bruise… or something more? 🖤

Subungual melanoma is a rare type of melanoma that appears under the nail that is often mistaken for a bruise. But unlike a bruise, it doesn’t heal or grow out over time.

It’s also more commonly diagnosed in people with skin of colour, where melanoma may show up in less expected places like the nails, palms, or soles of the feet.

Knowing what to look for could save your life:
▪ Dark streaks or discolouration on the nail
▪ Changes in nail shape or thickness
▪ A mark that doesn’t grow out or heal

👉 Learn how to spot the signs https://melanomacanada.ca/blog/is-it-a-bruise-or-maybe-subungual-melanoma/

Learn about Subungual Melanoma (SM), a rare form of nail cancer, its symptoms, risk factors, and how to differentiate it from common nail issues. Discover the importance of early detection, self-exams, and prevention methods in maintaining nail health.
