At Community Living Oakville, building confidence and real-life skills is a key part of how we support people to live active, fulfilling lives in the community. First aid training is one of the ways we help people feel prepared, capable, and proud of what they can do.

These sessions go beyond learning safety skills — they strengthen independence, boost self-confidence, and create space for people to support one another. That sense of empowerment and belonging is at the heart of our mission and brings us closer to our vision of a world where every person with a developmental disability is valued, respected, and able to live their dreams.

Moments like these show what’s possible when people are given the right opportunities to grow.

Today we’re celebrating Maria Victoria Silva — someone who brings heart, dedication, and pure kindness to Community Living Oakville.

Maria supports our reception team, helps welcome guests, and jumps in to prepare supplies and set-ups for events like our Christmas celebrations. Every moment she gives adds something meaningful to our community.

When asked what inspired her to volunteer, she shared that it comes from “a desire to contribute positive actions that make the world a place of empathy, love, and inclusion.”

Maria says volunteering has taught her that barriers don’t matter when you truly want to help. She believes language connects us, and that Community Living Oakville is “an open space to simply be.”

Her favourite moment so far? Helping bring the Oakville Christmas opening event to life — a day filled with teamwork, laughter, and holiday spirit.

If she had to describe our community in one word: Unity.
Because when we come together, amazing things happen.

And her advice for anyone thinking of volunteering?
Take the leap. Stay committed. The opportunities to grow — and to make a difference — are endless.

Thank you, Maria, for the warmth, energy, and joy you share with Community Living Oakville. We’re grateful for you. 💙💚

We did it, Oakville!

Our float “Frosty Friends of Oakville” just won Best Community Float AND the Grand Prize at the 2025 Oakville Santa Claus Parade!

Our staff, volunteers, people we support, families, and friends poured so much heart into creating something joyful, inclusive, and full of holiday spirit — and the community felt it.

Huge thank-yous:
• Chad and his team from C&C Custom Contracting for bringing the float to life with incredible craftsmanship – from candy canes to Christmas trees.
• Brent Stevens from Global Citizen for donating our festive elf T-shirts and printing our banner so we could show up in style.
• Our XCEL artists who painted the snowflakes, and every volunteer who glued, taped, stapled, decorated, and cheered this project into reality.

Walking the route and seeing all the smiles made this parade unforgettable!

Thank you, Oakville. We’re so proud to be part of such a vibrant, supportive community.

Today is Remembrance Day.

In Oakville, we pause together to honour the service and sacrifice of our veterans and active service members. Many of our staff and the people we support at Community Living Oakville are wearing their poppies with pride today.

Join us in one of the local ceremonies or observe quietly wherever you are:

• Parade from 79 Jones St., Bronte Branch, 10:30 a.m., followed by ceremony ~10:50 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
• Parade from 325 Reynolds St., Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre, 10:30 a.m., ceremony at George’s Square — in person or live-streamed.
• Ceremony at Trafalgar Memorial, Memorial Park, 10:50 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

At exactly 11:00 a.m., we observe two minutes of silence. Wherever you are — join us in remembering and honouring.

A huge thank-you to CharterAbility!

Andrea Lee and our In The Loop Media team dropped by to connect with our longtime friend and supporter, Stephen Cull of CharterAbility, who generously presented a $1,000 donation to Community Living Oakville.

This gift was raised through their Creepy Creek Cruises event — an amazing idea first pitched by In The Loop Media member, Michael Marchetti. Love to see our community working together and turning a fun idea into something meaningful!

Funds raised help people we support access opportunities that build confidence, friendships, and a stronger sense of belonging right here in Oakville.

Thank you, CharterAbility, for your continued partnership and the incredible experiences you create across our community. 💙💚

Our Story

Founded in 1955, Community Living Oakville is a non-profit charitable organization that provides support to people who have a developmental disability. Since its beginning, 59 years ago, the Organization has held true to its core mission to encourage and support full community participation enabling the people it supports to live active, rewarding and fulfilling lives.

Community Living Oakville was founded by parents who dreamed of a better life for their sons and daughters. They wanted their children to learn in school, have friends, and be welcome in their communities. We continue that vision within the Town of Oakville.

Today the organization includes individuals, families, staff & volunteers dedicated to making sure that people with developmental disabilities are able to enjoy their right to lead active and productive lives in their communities.
