ProActive Basics: The Shoulder Part 2! Yesterday we covered the anatomy of the shoulder. So what do you do if your shoulder joint is painful or stiff? Stiffness in the shoulder can make it difficult to drive your car, engage in exercise, or take part in any number of seemingly simple tasks. One common cause of pain in the shoulder is Adhesive Capsulitis, also known as Frozen Shoulder.
The bones, ligaments, and tendons that make up the shoulder joint are encased in a capsule of connective tissue. If this tissue thickens and tightens around the joint, it can restrict movement. Symptoms can come on gradually or you can just wake up with it.
Risk of experiencing frozen shoulder can increase if your mobility becomes restricted; those healing from a broken arm, who've experienced a stroke, or are recovering from surgery are all at heightened risk of developing this condition. The Good News: Frozen Shoulder is treatable! At ProActive we like to use hands on manual therapy, aimed at the shoulder joint and surrounding tissue, in order to help our patients feel their best and get back their full range of motion.
