A two-day leadership training program in Quebec has fired up pharmacists Alex Tang and Tristan Lai on their next steps in a lifelong journey to help both new and veteran pharmacists better serve 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

In 2024, Tang and Lai applied for—and received—grants from the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy’s Wellspring Pharmacy Leadership Awards to help cover the costs of attending the Effective Leadership program at the McGill Executive Institute, part of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec.

After working closely with partners Glenda Phillips and Rhonda Schooner from Nuxalk Nation Health and Wellness in Bella Coola, B.C., to lay the groundwork for culturally safe pharmacy services, Dr. Larry Leung is witnessing dramatic growth in scale and impact.

An Associate Professor of Teaching at the University of British Columbia, Leung received a grant from the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy’s Innovation Fund in 2023.

Since receiving the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy’s Wellspring Pharmacy Leadership Award in 2023, pharmacist Heba BaniHani has continued to expand her impact in migraine and headache care—both in Canada and abroad. The award grant helped her to pursue a Master’s in Headache Disorders at the University of Copenhagen, where she made history as the first pharmacist to graduate from the program.

Two of the three recipients of CFP’s 2025 Wellspring Pharmacy Leadership Awards joined us on the stage: Nishan Devani, who used his Wellspring Grant to attend the 2025 FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences held in Copenhagen, Denmark; and Rahim Pradhan, who will complete a project management certificate program as well as two Lean healthcare certifications.

The Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy is thrilled to help spotlight innovation and leadership in pharmacy—as we did in Toronto in September, as co-host of the Ontario Pharmacists Association’s annual awards ceremony.

In 2022, with funding from the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy’s Innovation Fund, Dr. Kelly Grindrod and her research team at the University of Waterloo set out to determine whether computer-based education (CBE)—using the Pharmacy 5in5 platform—could encourage pharmacists in Ontario to perform more POCT.

While the results show that pharmacists gained valuable knowledge and skills through the online education program, they also revealed how regulatory and logistical barriers—including the fact that pharmacists’ POCT services are not publicly funded in the province—continue to restrict how beneficial POCT can be. In the category of individual or pharmacy team initiatives, Sophie Park and her colleague, Saffiyah Abdulaziz at the Rexall Pharmacy Group Ltd. pharmacy in downtown Vancouver earned top marks for bringing vaccine services to communities where they’re needed most. Over the past two years, their collaboration with the Vancouver Police Department alone has delivered almost 600 doses of Shingrix (not covered by public programs) to first responders. Last week (September 19, 2025), the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy’s Linda Prytula was invited to the "Welcome to Pharmacy” event, organized by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Ottawa to celebrate their latest cohort of PharmD students.

Six lucky students received a free copy of CFP's Pharmacy in Management in Canada textbook, which we hope inspires them as they embark on their new pharmacy chapter.
