Many do not know that the education of osteopathic manual therapy varies in Alberta and across Canada for that matter. We are all not educated equally and that matters.

At take flight our osteopathic team are all members of the AAOMT.

At the Alberta Association of Osteopathic Manual Therapists (AAOMT), membership requirements reflect this reality.

AAOMT members are Osteopathic Manual Therapists who have completed extensive, in-person education that meets defined standards, including:

• Multi-year osteopathic education (commonly 4–5+ years full-time for those with no prior education in a health profession and part-time for those with a prior education of a health profession)
• Hands-on practical and supervised clinical training
• Education delivered through direct contact (not online-only programs)
• For Canadian programs (most are Type 2), prior licensure in another regulated health profession; however the Sheridan College Honors Bachelor's of Science in Osteopathy is Type 1 and requires no health background.
• Alignment with international benchmarks for osteopathic training

Type 1 Education Pathways

Type 1 programs are full-time osteopathic education programs and do not require a prior health-care background.

• Sheridan College – launched a 4-year Honours Bachelor of Science in Osteopathy in September 2023 (Type 1)
• Beginning September 2025, Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) will offer a combined 3-year Bachelor’s + 2-year Master’s degree (5 years total) in osteopathy, also classified as Type 1

Type 2 Education Pathways

Type 2 programs are typically part-time osteopathic education programs and require prior licensure in another regulated health profession before entry.

AAOMT membership requirements reflect both pathways — provided education length, structure, and clinical training meet established standards.

These requirements exist to support public safety, transparency, and professional accountability — not to exclude, but to clearly define the educational foundation behind the title Osteopathic Manual Therapist.

Education matters.
Transparency matters.
Informed choice matters.

A good look at how osteopathic care influences the whole! More and more support is emerging for the osteopathic concept and the work we do with visceral (organ tissue), the nervous system and the cranial system…. Although as osteo’s we know intuitively what we do and see the results, science has lagged behind a bit and it’s nice to see it catch up a bit!

📢 How Do Your Organs Influence Your Emotions and Decisions?

🌿 Did you know that your gut, heart, and other internal organs are constantly communicating with your brain—shaping your thoughts, emotions, and even your sense of self?

🧠 According to neuroscience research, this “interoceptive” feedback influences behavior, memory, mood, and motivation. It even affects how we perceive fear, safety, and connection to others.

✨ Manual therapy, especially approaches like Visceral Manipulation and CranioSacral Therapy, works directly with these pathways—supporting the body’s ability to regulate from the inside out.

👉 By gently addressing restrictions in the organs, fascia, and autonomic nervous system, these therapies help restore internal balance and improve emotional and cognitive function. This is more than just muscle work—it's about optimizing the whole-body communication network.

I am so very excited about this opportunity!!!

Please meet the 2026 Speakers!
Our first BIO - Please meet and welcome: 🎙️

Christal Geier, (D.O.M.P, CAT(C), B.Kin. Brain Tech Coach) is an Osteopathic Manual Therapist, Athletic therapist and the Founder of Take Flight Osteopathic Wellness. She is also a BrainWave Balancing Tech Coach, supporting nervous system balance and stress recovery through non-invasive neurotechnology.
Raised in a small farming community in Southern Saskatchewan, Christal understands the lived rhythm of agriculture, the unpredictable seasons, the intense periods of stress and the quiet expectation to stay strong and keep going. As a farm girl and lifelong athlete, injuries first sparked her curiosity about the body: how it breaks down, how it heals, and what helps people stay resilient over the long haul.
Christal’s career began with Athletic Therapy and Kinesiology and later took her into the insurance and rehabilitation world, where she met a common (and often unseen) struggle: people living with real pain or mental challenges, while being told everything looks “normal.” That experience led her deeper into osteopathic training and a guiding belief that shapes her work today—symptoms are not necessarily a sign of body failure; they’re information. When we learn to listen to the body and understand the nervous system, we can find our way back to clarity, steadiness, and inner coherence.
Through her life experience, clinical work, and teaching (including Tapping into the Inner Physician), Christal helps people reconnect with their deeper self—the part that knows what’s true, what’s needed, and what well-being actually feels like in real life. Her mission is to help individuals access the health and wisdom within and create a more sovereign, peaceful, joyful life—a life that truly Takes Flight.

Have you heard? We have a couple of new faces around here and one of them is Michelle Esau!

Some of our crew had the opportunity to have a session with Michelle last week and they were blown away by the gifted therapist she is and the shifts they experienced during and after the session.

Healing Touch is a gentle, energy-based therapy that supports the body’s natural ability to heal and restore balance. After stressful or frightening events (like an injury, accident, surgery, or a serious diagnosis), it’s not uncommon for the experience to linger. In a Healing Touch session, Michelle uses light and respectful touch to calm the nervous system and bring the energy system back into a more harmonious flow.

Curious? Book a session with Michelle or give us a call to learn more!

Winter can feel heavy, but small, intentional choices can help lift the fog. If you’re feeling the winter blues, try working the following into your day:

❄️ Talk it out: connect with a good friend or reach out to a professional for support. Sometimes you just need to talk it out!
❄️ Find warmth: hot coffee, a new soup recipe, cozy moments that comfort your body can go a long way.
❄️ Step into the light: a little bit of natural light can work wonders on your mood and mental health. When the sun is out, be sure to soak it up.
❄️ Get moving: a walk, a home workout, or a gentle yoga class to get your body flowing can help boost your energy levels.
❄️ Get creative: journaling, crafting, or anything that engages your mind and brings joy is a great way to brighten a dull season.

You don't have to do it all, but sometimes just one small act can be a game changer for your mental health this time of year 🌿🧘
