Earthquakes don’t just occur along B.C.’s coast.

It’s important to be prepared and know what to expect, no matter where you are.

If you feel the ground start to shake or receive an Earthquake Early Warning via phone, TV or radio:

Drop to the ground ✔️

COVER your head and neck under a sturdy piece of furniture ✔️

Hold On until the shaking stops ✔️

When the shaking stops, count to 60 before getting up.

If you are at or near the coast, when the shaking stops, count to 60 before getting up, then move IMMEDIATELY to high ground in case of a tsunami ✔️

Practice Drop, Cover, Hold On by joining the ShakeOutBC earthquake drill on October 16 at 10:16 a.m.

A grab-and-go bag is a smaller version of an emergency kit that's easy to take with you if you need to evacuate quickly due to emergencies such as tsunamis, wildfires, floods or landslides.

Get started with the following list:

• Food and water
• Battery-powered radio and flashlight
• First-aid kit
• Personal toiletries and medications
• Copy of your emergency plan and important documents
• Cash in small bills
• Seasonal clothing and an emergency blanket

Make sure to pack a grab-and-go bag for each person in your household, including pets, and customize each one to meet their unique needs ✔️
