On International Women’s Day, we recognize and celebrate the women who serve our communities with compassion, strength, and quiet leadership.

Funeral directing is a profession built on care, dignity, and trust. Women in this field bring profound empathy, resilience, and professionalism as they guide families through some of life’s most difficult moments. Their presence continues to shape and strengthen the profession in meaningful ways.

Today we honour the women who have paved the way, those who serve today, and the generations who will continue this work with grace and dedication.

Happy International Women’s Day to the women of funeral service and to the many women who support their communities every day.

Jude Dion March 19, 1960 – February 20, 2026
& Lise Nielsen Dion March 12, 1967 – February 20, 2026

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of Jude Dion and his wife, Lise Nielsen Dion, in February 2026. Jude was born March 19, 1960, to Jean and Rejeanne Dion in Vancouver, B.C. He built his life around his work, his passion for the outdoors, and his longstanding ties to the 100 Mile House community. Jude is survived by his mother, Rejeanne Dion; his children: Terra (Dave) and their son Jacob; Travis (Teri-Lynn) and their daughter Amber-Lynn; and his youngest daughter Andrea (Jeremy). He is also survived by his eldest brother Michele (Merle) and their daughter Michelle; his brother Pierre (Diane) and nephews Trevor and Kevin; and his late sister Susie’s children, Angela, Paul, and Mark, along with extended family and many friends. Lise will also be missed by her family and those who knew her. When Jude was 17, his parents purchased Exeter Sporting Goods in 100 Mile House. In 1992, he took ownership of the business and continued to grow it into a trusted fixture in the community. For decades, he worked to ensure that residents had access to the sporting goods and outdoor equipment they needed without having to travel elsewhere. His knowledge and straightforward manner earned him the respect of customers and fellow outdoorsmen alike. Jude had a lifelong passion for fishing, camping, and hunting. He spent many hours in the backcountry and especially valued time riding up Mica Mountain with his brother Pierre, his nephews Trevor and Kevin, his son Travis, and many others. He was also a steady supporter of local galas, derbies, and community events, contributing to the town he called home. Their sudden passing leaves a space that cannot be filled. They will be remembered by family, friends, customers, and community members whose lives intersected with theirs over the years. In keeping with their wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the BC SPCA.

Crystal Lynn MacAloney Loyer
October 4, 1979 - February 14, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we have to announce the passing of our beautiful Crystal MacAloney Loyer. She was born and raised in 100 Mile House, and apart from a few years away, she spent her life in 100 Mile House. You will know her for her hairdressing skills, her work at the local veterinary office, and, most recently, working as an EA for the local high school. She raised two beautiful daughters, both of whom refer to her as not only their mom, but their best friend. There are so many words to describe Crystal...kind, loving, empathic, always helping others even when she had her own struggles to deal with.
She will be missed forever by her parents, Mert and Tracy MacAloney, her brother, Lindsay MacAloney (Penny and Ryder) and of course, her much-loved and treasured children, Mackenzie White and Sydney Loyer, among many, many more.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date TBA
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her girls, Mackenzie and Sydney. They can be made directly to the 100 Mile House Williams Lake and District Credit Union in the name of Crystal MacAloney or mailed to WLDCU 100 Mile House Branch, PO Box 1781, 100 Mile House, BC VOK 2E0 or etransfered to madmac417@gmail.com.

Jean Mary Hartog ~
It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Jean Hartog, aged 97, who went to heaven on December 10, 2025, with her beloved daughter Caroline by her side. Jean lived a long, healthy, and active life and was admitted to the hospital in 100 Mile House one week before her passing.
Jean McLellan was born on August 12, 1928, in Burnaby, British Columbia, the first of three children. She was raised in Burnaby by her parents, and grandmother, with her brothers Raymond and Norman. After completing business school, where she learned to operate accounting machines, Jean worked for a large company in Vancouver.
In 1957, Jean met Martin Hartog, a new immigrant from the Netherlands, and the two swiftly fell in love. Martin’s parents operated a chocolate and candy import business on the floor below the apartment where Jean lived with her mother. Jean often said that Martin was a true romantic. They were married in 1959.
Jean and Martin settled in Kelowna, where they raised their two daughters, Caroline and Denise. The family later spent seven years in Holland while Martin pursued his calling to make a difference in the lives of others through his work with World Relief. During this time, Jean greatly enjoyed keeping the office's books.
In the early 2000s, Jean and Martin moved to 100 Mile House to be closer to Caroline and her family. Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Martin in 2004, as well as her two younger brothers.
Jean will be deeply missed by her daughters Caroline and Denise; her son-in-law Vern; her grandson Lynden (Madelyn) and granddaughter Netanya; Denise’s children, Krystal and Nicolas of Alberta; her sister-in-law Dorothy McLellan; and her seven nieces and nephews.

Jean will be laid to rest with her husband in 100 Mile House on December 16th, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.

A celebration of life will be held on their anniversary May 21st, 2026.

July is Bereaved Parents Month.

A gentle reminder to hold space for all the parents quietly carrying the weight of grief.
For the ones who’ve lost a baby through miscarriage, who’ve held their breath through stillbirth, who’ve had to say goodbye far too soon to a newborn.
For the parents whose child is no longer here, who face birthdays and anniversaries with empty arms.
For the silent battles with infertility, for the unimaginable pain of losing multiples, for the heart-wrenching decisions like TFMR (termination for medical reasons).
For every mother and father learning how to live with a piece of their heart missing.

Your pain is real. Your story matters. And you are not alone.

Reminders of our grief are everywhere.

They’re engrained in our everyday routines.

It shows up in the most unexpected of places sometimes.

But I know it all points to the significance of their presence here and how deeply it has impacted us, both then and now.

The ache is real, and it’s okay to acknowledge that pain when it surfaces.

The ache of their absence is an indicator of how profoundly meaningful their presence was.

So if you are greeted by your grief today in an unexpected way, whether it be through a song or a smell, a story or a survey question at the doctor, please remember:

The ache endures but the love remains in these spaces too.

Love is forever, even if its forms of expression change when we face loss.

So, whether it’s been a minute, an hour, a month, a year, or decades: your grief will always matter.

And when it finds ways to surface and surprise you, please know that there is nothing wrong with allowing your heart to acknowledge and process that pain in your own way and at your own pace.

I’m sending hugs to everyone whose loss feels especially tender today.

They were here and it mattered. 💜
