Met a friend in Toronto yesterday, and we decided to meet at the U of T encampment.
The encampment is surrounded by fencing that the school put there hoping to keep the students out, hoping to silence them.
The students covered much of the fencing with artwork of liberation and solidarity.
At the gates, we were created w a legal observer who keeps an eye on possible police violence.
Inside, we were told ground rules that keep everybody safe and welcomed to walk around.
We were visitors, we could come and go as we choose. But the artwork and msges want to be seen.

Posting late, but this beautifully illustrated story tells the story of 48 ppl who were exiled in the NAKBA, by threat of violence. This book has beautiful illustrations and tells stories many in the West are unaware of.

Really really want to appreciate this book soooo much.
Naomi contextualises so many things in our current and recent moments.
She makes sense of it.
She digs deeper than right and wrong and into understanding from human and fact-based perspectives.
I can't thank her enough for writing this book.
I highly recommend reading, in a book club is even better cause good discussions.
Listening to the audio is great bc it is her voice.
This book looks at so many layers of darkness and still manages to give me hope. Which is magic for our time.

Last Saturday, we gathered outside of the Orangeville farmer's market and made birds for Birds Of Gaza. Then we upload them to the website birdsofgaza.com, in honour of a specific child who was killed in the colonially funded genocide.

Will repeat every 2 weeks.

I like this activity bc I am living these days in a community that is somewhat politically adverse. (I miss Guelph). BoG is a wonderful project bc while it is non-confrontational, it is still awareness-raising and reflective.
This works more for ppl who are unsettled by overt activism and protest. (I am fine w protest, love it, but know some others don't).
I am curious about this form of awareness raising bc I think we need more and more ppl informed and involved.
