Today our Hospice Orillia program will begin something gentle and meaningful - a Grief Support Walking Group! 👟🚶🧑‍🦽

Walking together offers space to breathe, reflect, and connect with others who understand. Walk with us — at your own pace. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ You don’t have to talk if you don’t want to — just come as you are. You are not alone.

Our Grief Support Walking Group is a safe, supportive space to walk or roll side by side through grief. Anyone navigating loss is welcome; registration required.

—Vincent van Gogh

Love is creativity in its purest form.
It’s seen in compassion, kindness, patience, and the quiet ways we show up for one another.

New Course Offering for Health Service Providers: Bereavement 101

Health professionals are often called upon to support others through profound loss — yet conversations around grief and bereavement can be some of the most challenging we face.
The Bereavement 101 half-day virtual workshop is an interactive learning experience designed to deepen your understanding of grief, bereavement, mourning, and death and dying in our society today.

This free workshop encourages self-reflection on personal experiences with grief, as well as the biases and beliefs that may shape how we provide care and support. Participants will explore:
💠 Contemporary grief theory and evolving models of bereavement.
💠 How to hold compassionate and inclusive space for grieving individuals and families.
💠 Practical strategies to support both your clients and yourself in the face of loss.

Whether you work in healthcare, social services, or community support, this course will strengthen your ability to provide informed, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care.

🖥️ Virtual Workshop Options:

“Be a little kinder than you have to.” —E. Bennett

Kindness doesn’t have to be loud or grand to matter. It shows up in patience, in listening without rushing, in offering grace when it’s easiest to withhold it. Today, let’s choose that extra bit of kindness — for others, and for ourselves. 💛✨

NSMHPCN January Hot Tip – Palliative Care in Chronic Lung Disease

Living with chronic lung disease can be physically and emotionally overwhelming — but support is available. Palliative care focuses on relieving symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue, anxiety, and chronic cough, while also supporting patients and families throughout the disease journey.

By combining symptom management, thoughtful decision-making, and future care planning alongside medical treatment, palliative care can improve quality of life, enhance comfort, and help individuals feel more in control of their care.

🎊 New Year's Eve wishes from us to you! 🎉

As the year comes to a close, people across Canada and around the globe welcome the New Year in beautifully unique ways—each tradition carrying hope, reflection, and joy. ✨ Here are some New Year’s Eve Traditions in Canada & Around the World:

🍁 Canada: Ringing in the New Year with fireworks, countdowns, winter festivals, community events, and cozy gatherings with family and friends.

🍇 Spain: Eating 12 grapes at midnight—one for each stroke of the clock—for good luck in the year ahead.

🎆 Brazil: Wearing white and gathering by the ocean to make wishes jumping over 7 waves at the shore and offer items to the sea.

🥟 China: Celebrating with family feasts, dumplings, and preparations for the Lunar New Year.

🍜 Japan: Slurping toshikoshi soba noodles to symbolize longevity and letting go of the past year.

🎺 Scotland: Hogmanay celebrations filled with music, torchlight processions, street parties, and the tradition of “first-footing.”

🪑 Denmark: At midnight, it’s tradition to stand on a chair, couch, or table and jump off it to physically step into the new year.

🪙 Greece: Eating Vasilopita—a sweet cake with a hidden coin inside—whoever finds the coin is said to be blessed with good luck for the year ahead.

🫘 Italy: It’s common to enjoy a feast with lentil-based dishes—the round shape of lentils resembles coins for a prosperous year to come—a tradition dating back to ancient Rome.

No matter where or how it’s celebrated, New Year’s Eve is a shared time of renewal, gratitude, and hope for what’s to come. 🌍💫
