Myth vs. Fact Friday!!
Myth:
If you feel healthy, you donât need checkups.
Busted!!! Feeling healthy doesnât always mean your body is free from hidden risks. Many serious conditionsâlike high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, or early heart diseaseâoften show no symptoms until significant damage has already occurred. These âsilent killersâ can quietly increase your risk for heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, or other complications.
Routine checkups with your healthcare provider are crucial because they allow for:
- Early detection: Catching problems before they become serious.
- Prevention: Lifestyle changes, medications, or interventions can prevent or delay complications.
- Peace of mind: Knowing your health status helps you make informed choices.
- Long-term planning: Understanding your risk factors allows you to take proactive steps to protect your future.
Even if you feel perfectly fine today, regular visitsâsuch as annual physicals, screenings, and lab testsâcan reveal underlying issues that may otherwise go unnoticed. Prevention matters, and taking care of yourself now can prevent bigger problems later.
Your health is an investmentâdonât wait for symptoms to appear to take action. â¤ď¸

At Hospice Orillia, weâre honoured to walk beside individuals and families through lifeâs most tender moments â offering care, comfort, and dignity when it matters most. đ

There are many ways to make a difference! Whether you give monthly, make a one-time donation, honour a loved one with a memorial gift, or include Hospice Orillia in your legacy plans, every contribution helps keep compassion at the heart of our community.
If youâre unable to donate but would still like to give back, we invite you to join us for an information session to learn how you can become part of our volunteer team. Your time and talents can make a meaningful impact. Find out more at https://hospiceorillia.ca/volunteer or contact Ashley MacGregor at (705) 325-0505 ext. 217 or ashley@hospiceorillia.ca.

Myth vs. Fact Friday!
Myth: Heart Disease only affects the elderly!
Busted!! Heart disease can affect anyoneâyoung adults, middle-aged adults, and older adults alike. Factors such as poor diet, chronic stress, inactivity, smoking, high blood pressure, and family history can all increase risk at any age. Even people who feel healthy can be silently at risk.
The good news? Lifestyle changes can make a huge difference at any stage of life. Regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, stress management, avoiding to***co, and routine check-ups can dramatically lower your risk of heart disease.
February is Heart Health Month, a perfect reminder that caring for your heart is important for everyone, not just the elderly. Investing in your heart now helps ensure many healthy, active years ahead. â¤ď¸
For those who already have heart disease, a palliative approach to care can help ensure the best possible quality of life. Palliative care focuses on living wellâmanaging symptoms, supporting mental and emotional health, maintaining meaningful activities, and aligning care with your values and goals. Itâs not about giving up; itâs about helping people with heart disease continue to enjoy life fully, on their terms.
Heart disease may change your life, but it doesnât mean life stops being lived. Taking care of your heartâand yourselfâcan make every day count. đŞđ
