New findings have confirmed what many have feared: microplastics are showing up in nearly every part of the human body — from bones and brain tissue to blood and lungs.

Did you know? A person may ingest tens of thousands of microplastic particles every year — through food, bottled water, air, or even microwaving plastic containers.

Studies link microplastic exposure to inflammation, cardiovascular risk, stroke, dementia, and even disrupted drug absorption in cancer patients.

We don’t yet know how much plastic exposure is “safe.” What we do know is:
➡️ Heating plastics releases more particles
➡️ Microplastics may worsen asthma and COPD symptoms
➡️ They may accumulate in organs over time

At OFHC, we want our patients to stay informed. If you have chronic respiratory conditions, cardiovascular concerns, or are undergoing treatment for cancer, talk to your provider about how environmental exposures — including microplastics — may affect your care plan.

Why is there such a shortage of family doctors?

The answer goes back decades. Policy changes in the 1990s reduced medical school seats and discouraged family doctors from practicing full-service medicine. Many left hospital work, walk-in clinics grew, and younger doctors began seeking more flexible careers.

The result? Today, as older physicians retire, it’s harder than ever to find a new family doctor.

At Centrum Pharmacy, we’re addressing this shortage head-on. Through our collaboration with Orleans Family Health Clinic, we’ve recruited new physicians to the Orleans area and rostered thousands of patients.
