It’s been a week since I was named Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade 2025 Businessperson of the Year, and I’m still grinning from ear to ear. I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported me and Durham First Aid Inc. on this incredible journey.
Thank you to:
Daniel Andrusiak – my husband and business partner, who has stood by me every step of the way as we built this business together.
My children, Abigail and Joel – you’ve witnessed both the struggles and the triumphs. You understand why I’m not always home, and I’m endlessly grateful for every moment we share. I’m always craving more time with you.
My parents – thank you for believing in me when I decided to start my own business. From my mom sewing our original triangular bandages out of bed sheets, your support has been foundational.
Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade – to the members, judges, and staff, thank you for recognizing the work I’ve put into networking, serving on the Women’s Committee, and engaging with the business community. You’ve been a source of guidance, advocacy, and connection.
My other affiliations – thank you to the Whitby Chamber of Commerce, Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, Clarington Board of Trade, Heart of Networking Community, and Connecting GTA. Your support has helped me and my business grow.
The Red Cross – thank you for encouraging me to become a training partner after my role was transitioned. Your continued partnership has been invaluable to Durham First Aid Inc.
Laura Edwards, my mentor – from the moment I said I was going to build a first aid empire, you believed in me. Your unwavering support and encouragement have meant the world.
The staff of Durham First Aid, past and present – thank you for being the heartbeat of this company. From our instructors who deliver engaging and fun courses, to our admin team who keep everything running smoothly, and our closing crew who ensure our equipment is clean and ready — you all make it possible.
Girl Guides of Canada – selling cookies taught me how to be an entrepreneur. The organization gave me the confidence and opportunities to sell, to stand out, and to develop the skills I needed to thrive.
My coach, Liz Jakoi – thank you for giving me the tools to focus, be more productive, and stay present. Your guidance has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Everyone else – friends, family, colleagues, acquaintances — anyone I’ve interacted with over the days, weeks, and years: thank you. I could go on and on, but I’m not even sure if anyone is still reading this post.
Being a business owner can sometimes feel lonely, like no one truly understands. But as I reflect on this award and write these words of gratitude, I’m overwhelmed by the love and support I’ve received. Thank you for being part of this journey.
