February 25 marks , a time to raise awareness and celebrate the impact of cochlear implants. Cochlear implants are surgically implanted devices that provide sound to people who cannot benefit from hearing aids by sending signals directly to the brain, improving sound detection, speech understanding and hearing in noise.

On our blog, Grandview Kids parents Ankit and Mansi share their daughter Ahaana’s journey navigating hearing loss and ultimately finding success with a bilateral cochlear implant. With early intervention, speech therapy and the Grandview Kids community by their side, she’s now humming, dancing and connecting, reminding us that technology paired with love and support can rewrite what’s possible.

February is , a time to recognize Black history and celebrate the achievements of Black communities and individuals across Canada. The 2026 theme, “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations, From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries,” marks three decades of recognition and celebrates the lasting contributions of Black Canadians. It also highlights systemic barriers while honouring resilience, community strength, and the importance of culture, identity and support networks.

This morning, Grandview Kids was privileged to meet with Deputy Minister of Ontario’s Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), Daniele Zanotti, and offer him a tour of our headquarters, The Jerry Coughlan Building.

With Deputy Minister Zanotti, we shared ’s achievements since our Ajax headquarters opened its doors, highlighting the incredible growth opportunity this space presents for children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs. We discussed the importance of early intervention to support positive health outcomes for the children and youth we serve and strategized on how we can collaborate to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our community.

We are grateful to Deputy Minister Zanotti and our partners in provincial government at Ontario Community and Social Services for their time and ongoing support in making a difference for our community.

Our partnership with the provincial government has been one of progress, demonstrated through excellence in paediatric rehabilitation and innovation. We look forward to continuing our critical work together to honour our vision of every child and youth living at their full potential.

February is Therapeutic Recreation Month, recognizing the role of therapeutic recreation in supporting health, wellness and participation in meaningful activities. At Grandview Kids, Therapeutic Recreation helps children and youth build independence, confidence and life skills while reducing barriers to leisure participation. Recreation therapists use activity-based interventions to support the development of social, play and leisure skills and work closely with families to create individualized treatment plans based on each client’s needs, abilities and interests.

Play is how children learn, helping them develop physical, cognitive and social-emotional skills. It is the primary way children explore their environment, build communication and problem-solving skills, and develop creativity, imagination and early reasoning about the world around them.

Watch as Grandview Kids Recreation Therapists Maddy S., Rachel G. and Caitlin E. demonstrate turn-taking through play using “Pop the Pig®!” They highlight the importance of visuals, patience and shared play while modelling how to take turns and introducing other games that can be used to teach these skills.
