Things I’d hate to see on a yoga retreat (as someone who hosts them often):
Not because I’m picky but because I care 👇🏻
👉🏻A jam-packed itinerary with no space to breathe.
If there’s no room for a nap, a journal moment, or an impromptu swim, it’s not a retreat, it’s a schedule!
👉🏻Over-the-top “spiritual performance.”
You don’t need to chant for 2 hours or cry on cue to be transformed. The real magic is usually quiet and highly individual.
👉🏻Food that’s… just there.
Meals should feel nourishing and special, not like an afterthought. When people gather to eat, it should feel like a moment and it should fuel your body.
👉🏻Teachers who disappear between classes.
A retreat isn’t just about what happens on the mat, it’s also about connection. Presence matters.
👉🏻That weird pressure to have a huge emotional breakthrough.
You don’t have to “release everything” to be changed. Sometimes just feeling rested is the transformation.
The best retreats don’t force anything.
They hold space.
They offer rhythm, not rules.
They let you return to yourself.
And that’s what I aim to create, every time.
What’s something you do want to feel on retreat?
Psst: If you'd like to retreat with me, head to the link in bio to see what's coming up - don't sleep on my Back to Balance fall retreat, or see what's coming up in 2027 🌿
