From an occupational therapy lens, trick or treating is full of skill building opportunities!
-👣 Gross motor & balance: Navigating driveways, curbs, sidewalks while trick or treating can be a fun way to work those gross motor and balance skills.
-🖐 Fine motor: Cutting, gluing, decorating pumpkins or costumes supports precision and fine motor skills!
- 🎃 Sensory & regulation: New textures, sounds, lighting and social situations provide natural chances to practise self-regulation and sensory-tolerance.
-🧠 Cognitive & executive skills: Deciding which houses to visit, following a route and sorting candy, all support planning, organization, and cognitive skills!
-💬 Communication skills: Kids talk with one another, go door to door, and speak politely with adults, this helps build confidence and communication in social scenarios!
Halloween can be both both fun and therapeutic! 👻
