It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Zane Glen "Glennie" McMaster, age 78, of Springhill on March 5, 2026. Dad was the son of Garnet Edgar "Tettie" and Annie (Bird) McMaster. He was predeceased by his brother, Edson, in their teen years, his sister, Brenda, (Pepperdine), his grandson, Troy, and nephew, Teddy.

In Dad’s early years, he was a truck driver for Lanes Bread, hauled potatoes on P.E.I., and worked for Surrette Battery Company for thirty plus years. He was always a family man and good friend. If Dad liked you - you knew it, and, if he didn't - you'd know that too.

He loved most animals, but he especially had a life-long love of horses and would walk neighbourhood kids around his pastures on ponies and horses. Kids would ask if Dad was doing rides that day, and, when asked, he would walk them on a pony one after another until he'd say, "Those kids almost walked my legs off'." He loved those days and still rode horses for many years and enjoyed them as pets when he could no longer ride. He loved his dog, Rose, and cat, Buddy.

Dad always a great conversationalist who loved to talk whether in person, on the phone, and sometimes for hours. He had an awesome sense of humour and could be a captivating story-teller which was a trait passed down from his own father. He knew a ghost story or two as well. Playing cards with Dad could be competitive but always fun and memorable. He loved going for car rides from spring until fall around his usual Cumberland County haunts.

Survived by wife Deborah (Boss) of Springhill, daughter Crystal (Paul) Scott of Streets Ridge, son Cody (Springhill), step-daughter Allison Thompson (Halifax), six grandchildren, sisters Vicky Dulong (Springhill) and Lorna (Larry) Hunter (Springhill),several nieces - especially Sophie Elise Dulong, and his cousins.

Special thanks for Dad’s care over the past weeks to Dr. Shrestha, the Palliative/Comfort Care Team (Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre), Dr. Collette Saveur, and All Saints Hospital Palliative Care.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water Street, Oxford, NS. As per Glennie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place in the spring.

Donations in memory of Dad can be made to your local animal shelter, food bank, or a charity of your choice.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Glennie's online memorial at www.allenfuneralhome.ca or through the W. Allen Funeral Home page.
