This was something my Somatic Experiencing instructor said recently, and it landed so deeply for me.

When our nervous system is or activated, everything can feel urgent. Time feels tight.

But when we slow down & the nervous system settles—even just a little— our experience of time changes.
Urgency softens.
Presence grows.
Our body settles.
Our perception widens.

And suddenly there is space where there once felt like pressure.

Sometimes slowing down isn’t falling behind.
Sometimes it’s the very thing that gives us our time back.

🙄 “I’m so sick of the snow.”
🥶 “It’s too cold.”
🚗“I hate having to clear my car off every morning.”
…etc, etc.

Humans are actually wired with a negative bias. It’s part of how we survived — scanning for danger, discomfort, what isn’t working.

But when we don’t gently shift that lens, it can slowly shape how we experience our lives.
So what if we pause… and look again?

It’s too cold —
❄️and I’m grateful for a warm house, a cozy fireplace, and soft blankets to curl up in.

I hate cleaning my car off —
❄️and I’m also fortunate to have a reliable car that carries me where I need to go.

I'm sick of the snow —
❄️and I can still choose to notice its quiet beauty.

This isn’t about bypassing discomfort.
It’s about widening the view.
Small shifts don’t erase what’s hard —
but they do change how we hold it.
And sometimes, that makes all the difference. 🤍

If you’re not feeling merry and bright this season, that’s okay.

For many of us, the holidays can be one of the hardest times of the year. They can bring grief, loneliness, pressure, stress, and financial strain.

More stimulation.
More memories.
More expectations.
Less rest.

So if you notice yourself feeling more tired, more irritable, more emotional, or more withdrawn—your nervous system isn’t failing. It’s responding.

You’re allowed to move through this season in your own way.
Softly. Slowly. Honestly.

Go gently.
Rest when you can.
Take breaks from what feels like too much.

Not every session is meant to take you into the deep layers.

Sometimes your nervous system is quietly saying, “I just need to soften today.”

Restorative sessions are just as important as the big breakthroughs.

They give your body space to integrate, reset, and return to balance.

In fact, every few sessions, many clients find their body naturally asks for exactly that — gentleness, slowing down, and being held without needing to “do” anything.
