My name is Meghan and I'm a private practice Recreation Therapist who connects seniors to activities that bring them joy while improving or maintaining their physical, social, cognitive and emotional functioning. I meet 1 on 1 with seniors in:
*Their homes
*Independent Living Facilities
*Long term care
More than companionship, Oceanside Recreation Therapy can provide much needed respite for caregivers as well. Using a holistic approach, I offer individualized recreation programs tailored to the unique interests and abilities of clients to improve their health and well-being, enabling senior's to age in place. Recreation Therapy (or Therapeutic Recreation) is a health promotion profession that uses recreation and leisure to maintain or improve physical, social, emotional and cognitive functioning for better health outcomes. At it's core, Recreation Therapy is person-centered and builds upon the individual's strengths, and works at reducing barriers or limitations the client may have. Every program offered is evidence-based and is adapted to suit the needs and abilities of the client. Here is a selection of recreation programs that clients can find joy and rediscover their sense of purpose. Physical Well being: Chair one exercise program, variety of active games, dance, walking program
Benefits: Improving or maintaining gross motor skills, coordination, circulation, reduce stress, reduce falls risk, strengthen muscles and bones

Social and Emotional Wellbeing: Community outings, multisensory interventions, hand spa, creative arts, woodworking, music, reminisce, gardening, baking and cooking
Benefits: Decrease social isolation, improve fine motor skills, emotional regulation, improve memory and concentration, increased energy levels. Cognitive Wellbeing: Interactive technology, trivia, current events, card and board games, puzzles
Benefits: Improve or maintain memory, concentration
