Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and the incredible women who make up the heart of our team at Peace Valley Funeral Home.
Throughout life, women are so often the caregivers — the ones who support, comfort, organize, and hold families together during difficult times. In funeral service, that same compassion and strength is felt every day as the women on our team guide families through loss with care, patience, and dignity.
As a female-owned funeral home, I am incredibly proud to work alongside such a strong and dedicated group of women who serve our community with genuine kindness and professionalism.
Today we celebrate them and all the women who make a difference in the lives of others every day. 💙

UPDATE📢Due to unforseen circumstances this event will be postponed and rescheduled to a later date.

A Death Café is a relaxed, judgment-free space where people come together to talk openly about death, dying, and everything in between—over a cup of coffee. No agenda. No pressure. No expectations.

These conversations often leave people feeling lighter, more informed, and surprisingly comforted. Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we reflect, and sometimes we just listen—and all of that is welcome here.

Whether you’re curious, planning ahead, or just want to be part of an honest conversation, you’re invited.

When: Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Grimshaw Municipal Library 4412A 50 St. Grimshaw, AB
Cost: FREE to attend

For those celebrating Family Day today, we know this day can bring mixed emotions.

Family is not only about the people sitting around the table. It also includes those who live on in our hearts and memories. For grieving children, days that centre on family can stir up big feelings. They may miss someone deeply while others are celebrating.

Days like this offer an opportunity to acknowledge those feelings, share stories, and make space for remembrance.

💙 Whether it is a comforting conversation, a shared activity, or simply sitting together, small acts of connection can make a meaningful difference.

Here are a few gentle ideas to support grieving children today ⤵️

Behind the scenes, a large part of our role happens at a desk - completing paperwork, coordinating with doctors and registries, arranging permits, and making sure every detail is handled properly. It may not be the visible part of our job, but it’s one of the most important ways we support families.

Quiet work. Important work. Meaningful work.

Having plans in place doesn’t take away the pain of loss, but it does remove many of the difficult decisions that come with it.

Preplanning isn’t about expecting the unexpected.
It’s about offering clarity, comfort, and care when it’s needed most.

If you ever want to learn more, we’re here to have that conversation—gently and at your pace.

Our Story

Doug and Eunice opened Bear Creek Funeral Home in December, 2012, with the vision of “caring for each as our own”. Since then, we’ve served hundreds of Peace Country families. Summer of 2016 we opened our second location in Fairview, the home town of our Funeral Director Kristi Heck. Formerly Bear Creek Funeral Home Fairview, has now changed its name to Peace Valley Funeral Home, and is locally owned by Kristi and her brother Kolton Heck along with partners Doug and Eunice Friesen. We are proud to serve, Grimshaw, Peace River, Manning, High Prairie, High Level, Worsley, Spirit River, Valleyview, Falher, and everywhere around and in between. We can meet with you in our office, online through email, Zoom, or in the comfort of your own home.

Our warm and genuine staff are dedicated to each family we serve, from the moment of the first call through our aftercare program.

Families can expect compassionate care, a high standard of service, responsible pricing, with family centered care, from Peace Valley Funeral Home.
