Environment Canada is forecasting freezing rain and icy conditions (starting late Tuesday, March 9 and into Wednesday, March 10) across the region.

Renfrew County residents are encouraged to take a few minutes to check in on family members, friends, and neighbours, especially seniors or those who may need extra support.

In preparation for power outages and difficult travel conditions, it’s helpful to ensure people have enough supplies for up to 48 hours, including:
• Food and water
• Required medications/Oxygen (if needed)
• A backup electricity source for medical devices if required
• A safe backup heat source

If someone in our community needs additional support, the following resources are available:
📞 RCVTAC: Virtual care and medical support for non-emergency health concerns
📞 Community Paramedics: 1-844-860-2778
📞 2-1-1: Dial or visit 211.ca for information on community and social services
A quick check-in can make a big difference. Looking out for one another, helps keep our community safe during severe weather.

Do you KNOW how thick the ice is? If not, don't venture out.
Rising temperatures and heavy rain will make the ice on most waterways dangerously thin and unstable.

Ice thickness can vary dramatically from one location to the next. In order to be safe to walk on, it should be at least 10 cm (4 inches) thick. To support a snowmobile - at least 12 cm (5 inches). To support a truck - at least 30-38 cm (12-15 inches).

Always remember that no ice is without some risk.
~

This past weekend, our community, including the Mesa Renfrew County HARTHub team, showed up in a powerful way for the Coldest Night of the Year.
On one of the coldest nights of winter, residents, partners, and first responders walked together to raise awareness and support for neighbours experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, or cheered from the sidelines.
In total there were 289 walkers on 57 teams who raised more than $120,000 to support The Grind Pembroke
Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Coldest Night of the Year meaningful.
