This is Julia - a PSW who has worked at Carefor Mackay Centre in Pembroke since 2014 and is now a student bridging into the RPN program.

After more than a decade caring for residents, she’s taking the next step in her career to honour someone who changed her life: Helen, a beloved Mackay nurse who passed away last year.

Helen encouraged Julia to keep learning, keep growing, and keep showing up for residents who may have no one else.

Julia’s efforts to better herself are a tribute to her friend and mentor, and to the shared belief that kindness, connection, and compassion can change someone’s world.

Carefor is proud to support Julia in her journey as one of 10 recipients of Carefor Bursaries.

The success of Care for Seniors with Melanie led to an unforgettable adventure last week as our residents boarded the bus and traveled to Renfrew to see James Dean on the big screen in Rebel Without a Cause at the historic O'Brien Theatre.

A huge thank‑you to the O'Brien Theatre for warmly hosting our group, to our amazing Activity Coordinator Nikki for driving the bus and making the trip possible, and of course to the generous donors whose support brings experiences like this to life.

Moments like these remind us how meaningful community, nostalgia, and shared joy can be for our residents. What a wonderful day.

March is Fraud Protection Month and is a reminder for seniors to remain vigilant in protecting themselves against possible scams.

Unfortunately scams to part seniors from their money are becoming more frequent and sophisticated meaning that seniors need to be more cautious when dealing with those who approach them.

While many of us remember a time where you could trust those around you, the internet is offering access to you by people around the globe, many of whom don't have your best interest at heart.

The Government of Canada has created this useful guide on ways to protect yourself from scams.

Music, laughter, and donor generosity in action!

We were thrilled to welcome the Red Hot Mammas as they lit up our home with their wonderful performance. Their energy and joy had our residents smiling from ear to ear.

This visit was extra special because the Red Hot Mammas were the very first to play our brand‑new keyboard — purchased through the Care for Seniors with Melanie campaign.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our residents now have even more opportunities to enjoy live music, sing‑alongs, and meaningful moments together.
