Community care doesn’t stop at the therapy room door.

This past Saturday, our team gathered in downtown Midland to take part in Coldest Night of the Year - walking in support of The Guesthouse Shelter and United Way of Simcoe Muskoka.

We’re especially grateful for a very generous donation from one of our supporters, and for the laughter, connection, and shared purpose that carried us through the evening.

Most of all, we’re proud to be part of a community that shows up for one another — especially when it matters most. 🌱💙

🎉 Happy Social Work Week (March 2–8) & Social Work Month 2026!

Every March, we take time to recognize and celebrate the meaningful work social workers do across the country - showing up with compassion, skill, and steady presence in moments that truly matter. 💙

At CPER, we also want to pause and shine a light on our own incredible team - Amanda, Anita P., Rosalyn, Sara, Fayssoux, and Samantha. Your care, insight, and dedication don’t just support clients; they strengthen our entire community. We’re so grateful for the work you do and the way you show up for others every day. ❤️👏

This year’s theme, Care. Insight. Together., reflects the heart of social work - empathy grounded in expertise, and the power of connection in creating change. It speaks to the way social workers across settings and communities work alongside people, not above them.

Throughout March, we join social workers everywhere in celebrating this essential profession and the impact it has in clinics, schools, hospitals, and communities nationwide.

New Blog: Why Caring for Our Caregivers (and Their Nervous Systems) Matters

In January, our Clinical Director, Rachel Gerow, had the privilege of spending time with the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society – Midland & District Animal Centre team, facilitating a worker wellness session focused on mindfulness and nervous system regulation in the workplace.

At The Centre for Psychology and Emotion Regulation, we believe that supporting animal welfare also means supporting the people behind the work. High-empathy roles carry real emotional and physiological demands, and tending to staff wellbeing is essential.

In her latest blog post, Rachel reflects on this experience and explores why stress reactions are not a personal failure, but a nervous system doing exactly what it’s designed to do — and how small, embodied practices can support sustainability and care.

We’re deeply grateful to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Midland and District Animal Centre team for their openness, care, and the vital work they do in our community. 💙

On January 21st, we had the pleasure of being part of a meaningful community conversation at the Midland Public Library.

Dr. Anita Federici talked about self-care beyond the clichés - not bubble baths or quick fixes, but what actually supports mental health and wellbeing in real life, especially when things are hard.

These conversations matter, particularly when they happen in shared community spaces.

A heartfelt thank you to Jennifer for organizing and for the care and intention she brings to supporting our community. 💙

We can’t wait to come back!

We’re thrilled to congratulate Rosalyn on her new role as a Part-Time Professor at Georgian College. 🎉

Rosalyn will be teaching Topics in Counselling to final-year students in the Honours Bachelor of Counselling Psychology program, where she has created and will be leading seminars in Counselling with Couples, Military Veterans, and First Responders.

We’re proud to share that Rosalyn will continue her work with us as a therapist while taking on this exciting teaching role. A well-deserved opportunity, and we’re so grateful to have her on our team. 💙

Well done Rosalyn! 👏

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the full interview yet, this clip shares another thoughtful moment from the conversation around Treating Eating Disorders with DBT with Dr. Anita Federici and our Clinical Director Rachel Gerow.

In this clip, Dr. Federici talks about how the book was initially written with clinicians in mind - for those wanting to deliver MED-DBT in practice - and how, along the way, the language, tools, and ideas she uses with caregivers and clients naturally became part of the book as well.

What emerged is a resource that extends beyond clinicians alone. It’s for anyone curious about MED-DBT, how this approach has evolved, or the work Dr. Federici has been developing over many years.

The full conversation offers a thoughtful look at where MED-DBT began, what shaped the writing process, the challenges within the eating disorder field, and what’s ahead.

Family Day means different things to different people.

For some, it’s rooted in tradition and closeness. For others, it can feel complex, distant, or still taking shape. There is no single way to experience family, and no “right” way to feel today.

At The Centre for Psychology and Emotion Regulation, we honour all the ways family can be defined - through biology, choice, shared care, and the relationships that offer safety, respect, and belonging.

Wherever you find yourself this Family Day, we hope there’s space for gentleness, understanding, and connection, in whatever form feels meaningful to you.

From our team, wherever this day meets you, we hope you feel supported.💙

This year, our team is once again taking part in Coldest Night of the Year! ❄️

On February 28, we’ll be walking together to raise funds and awareness for people in our community facing homelessness, hunger, and hardship. This year, the funds we raise will support Guesthouse Shelter in Midland and United Way Simcoe Muskoka, both of which play a vital role in providing care, connection, and practical support close to home.

Coldest Night of the Year is about more than a walk - it’s about showing up, standing alongside our community, and helping ensure support is there when it’s needed most.

🔗 If you’d like to support our team, you can donate through the link in our bio. Every contribution helps make a meaningful difference.

Thank you for walking with us - in spirit and in action and we hope to see you there! ❤️ 🌿

Finding the right place can matter more than we realize.

Our new signs are up - a small, visible change that represents something deeper. Behind them is a space intentionally created to feel welcoming, calm, and supportive from the moment you arrive.

We know that reaching out for support often comes with hesitation. There’s no rush here. No pressure to have the right words or a clear plan. Just a place where you can arrive as you are, take a breath, and begin at your own pace.

We’re grateful for the work we do, the people we serve, and the team that shows up with care and understanding every day.

And if you’ve been looking for a sign - this might be it.

We’ll be here when you’re ready. 💙🌿

As Eating Disorders Awareness Week comes to an end soon, these numbers remind us that awareness must be followed by action.

🌿 30% of Canadians report thoughts or behaviours consistent with, or at high risk of developing, an eating disorder
🌿 This rises to 45% of Canadians under 35
🌿 And 48% of people in the 2SLGBTQ+ community

These numbers matter.

They remind us that eating disorders are not rare, not niche, and not always visible. Many people struggling may never “look” like they have an eating disorder - which is exactly why appearance-based ideas of health are so harmful.

This is what Health Doesn’t Have a Look means in real life.

These trends point to a growing mental health crisis, particularly among young people and marginalized communities, and a clear need for compassionate, accessible, and evidence-based care.

At the Centre for Psychology and Emotion Regulation, this is something we see in our work every day - it’s why Eating Disorders Awareness Week matters, and why the work can’t stop here.

If you or someone you care about is struggling, support is available. Eating disorders are serious, but recovery is possible - especially with early, compassionate intervention.

You don’t have to go through this alone. 💙
