This week’s herb of the week is Nutmeg!

Warm, aromatic, and deeply comforting, nutmeg is a spice that brings both nourishment and grounding energy. Traditionally used to support digestion, nutmeg is often turned to when the body feels sluggish or unsettled, helping to ease indigestion and promote a sense of calm. Many people also reach for it in the evening, appreciating its gentle warmth and its connection to deeper rest and relaxation.

Nutmeg carries a cozy, expansive energy. It is associated with abundance, creativity, and prosperity, making it a beautiful herb to work with when setting intentions around growth, comfort, and inspiration. Whether used in the kitchen, blended into warming drinks, or incorporated into seasonal rituals, nutmeg reminds us that nourishment can be both practical and soulful.

What are you calling in this Fire Horse year?

The Year of the Fire Horse begins on February 17, 2026 — at the new moon.

Chinese New Year follows the lunar calendar, meaning the year does not begin on January 1st. It begins in darkness. In stillness. On the new moon.
This is the second new moon after the winter solstice — a true energetic reset.

And this year carries the energy of the Fire Horse.
The Horse represents freedom, momentum, independence, passion, and forward movement. It does not walk quietly. It moves with intention and presence.
Fire adds intensity. Visibility. Creativity. Leadership. Bold action.

Together, Fire Horse energy is not subtle.
It is ignition. It is courage. It is breaking patterns and choosing movement. It is remembering who you are and moving toward it without apology.

The new moon marks the spark point — the moment in the dark where intention is planted.

If you have been waiting to:
• begin something
• release something
• step forward
• claim your independence
• take visible action

This is your match strike moment.

At Miss Mell’s Magick Mixes, we honour lunar rhythms and seasonal shifts.
The Fire Horse reminds us that growth does not always look quiet.
Sometimes it gallops.

Set your intentions under the new moon. Light your candle. Write your desires down. And then move.

This week’s herb of the week is nettle root.

If nettle leaf is about nourishment and rebuilding, nettle root takes us deeper into grounding and long-term support. Less commonly known than the leaf, nettle root has a long history of traditional use for supporting balance in the body, especially where inflammation and hormonal shifts are involved.

This is a steady, anchoring herb often worked with when the body needs strength from the ground up. It is valued in herbal traditions for its supportive role in men’s wellness and overall vitality, and energetically it carries a sense of stability, resilience, and connection to the earth.

Nettle root reminds us that true strength often comes from tending to what lies beneath the surface. A powerful continuation in working with the full story of the nettle plant.

This weeks herb of the week is nettle leaf.

Often overlooked and quickly dismissed as a w**d, nettle is one of the most nourishing herbs available. Rich in vitamins and minerals, nettle leaf has a long tradition of use for supporting the body during times of depletion, inflammation, and seasonal stress.

This herb is especially appreciated for its role in supporting joint health and helping the body respond to seasonal allergies. Many people turn to nettle during times when their system feels reactive or run down, using it as a daily tea or infusion to gently rebuild and strengthen from the inside out.

Energetically, nettle carries a quiet strength. It reminds us that resilience does not always look soft, and that nourishment can be both protective and empowering. A beautiful herb to work with as we move through seasonal transitions and into renewed growth.

Leo Snow Moon | February 1, 2026
The Full Snow Moon rises in Leo on February 1, 2026, illuminating the heart of winter with warmth, courage, and self-trust. Traditionally called the Snow Moon, this lunation reflects the deepest stillness of the season, when the land rests beneath ice and snow and life gathers its strength below the surface.
With the Moon in Leo, this otherwise quiet winter moon carries a bold and radiant energy. Leo invites us to reconnect with our inner fire, creative spirit, and sense of personal sovereignty. Even in the coldest months, this moon reminds us that our light does not disappear, it waits.
This is a powerful moon for reclaiming confidence, honoring your authentic self, and stepping back into alignment with what makes you feel alive. Leo energy asks where you have dimmed yourself to survive, and gently encourages you to stand tall again, even if you are still standing in the snow.
The Snow Moon is also deeply connected to resilience. Nature teaches us that rest is not stagnation. Roots grow strong in silence. Seeds prepare in darkness. Under this moon, you are invited to acknowledge how far you have come, especially through challenges that required endurance, patience, and quiet strength.
Magickal themes of the Leo Snow Moon
Self-worth and inner authority
Creative expression and joy
Courage to be seen and heard
Reigniting passion after a period of rest
Honoring resilience and survival
Ritual ideas
Light a candle and reflect on where you want to lead your life from the heart, not obligation
Write down one truth you have been holding back and safely burn or release it as an offering
Dress warmly and step outside, even briefly, to connect with the moon’s light on the snow
Work with herbs like calendula, cinnamon, or rosemary to support confidence and vitality
Affirmation “I honor my inner fire. Even in stillness, I am becoming.”
This Leo Snow Moon reminds us that winter does not weaken us. It shapes us. It refines our strength so that when the thaw comes, we rise with clarity, courage, and purpose.

This week’s herb plays off of last week’s herb of the week: mullein leaf, and brings the plant’s energy full circle.

Mullein flower carries many of the same supportive qualities as the leaf, with a slightly brighter, uplifting tone. Traditionally used to support respiratory health, mullein flowers are often infused into oils or gentle preparations and are especially valued during times when the lungs feel taxed from seasonal congestion, lingering dampness, or long winters.

Where the leaf grounds and soothes, the flower adds lightness. It reminds us that healing does not always have to be heavy work. This is a beautiful companion herb for this time of year, when we are moving out of congestion and toward clearer breathing, more ease, and renewed energy.

A lovely continuation of last week’s focus, and a reminder that plants often work best when we honor the whole story they tell.

Leave a comment with your favorite way to use Mullein.

This week’s herb of the week is mullein leaf.

When the seasons shift and congestion settles deep in the chest, mullein is one of the herbs we reach for most.

Mullein leaf has a long history of traditional use for supporting the lungs, especially when congestion feels heavy, tight, or stubborn. Its soft, velvety leaves are commonly used in teas and infusions to help loosen buildup and encourage easier breathing, making it especially helpful this time of year.

This is a grounding, gentle herb that works slowly and steadily. Perfect for evening tea rituals, quiet mornings, or anytime your lungs feel like they need a little extra support during cold, damp, or transitional weather.
