This week at Day Hospice, we leaned into the cozy comforts of winter. We shared a hot chocolate bar, spent time crocheting sleeve warmers, and, as always, enjoyed live music throughout the day.

With music playing, hands busy, and lots of easy conversation, the room felt warm and relaxed.

Day Hospice is a supportive day away for people living with serious illness at any stage, while providing caregivers reliable, planned respite they can count on.

The Hospice Hub is excited to announce our new Grief & Bereavement Reading Circle, beginning February 22.

Each month we will read and discuss a book on the topic of grief and bereavement. Experience thoughtful sharing in a supportive environment, while learning from a variety of different perspectives.

February's Book: The Grieving Brain, by Mary-Frances O'Connor, PhD

The last Sunday of every month, from 1-3 pm, starting Sunday February 22, 2026.
Location will alternate between Perth and Smiths Falls.

Pre-registration for each monthly Sunday is required by emailing bereavement@thehospicehub.ca; details of location will be given upon registration.

As part of our Day Hospice gathering this week, we chose a word to guide the year ahead. The word we landed on was fellowship.

For us, fellowship means coming together to share time, conversation, and everyday moments in a welcoming and supportive space. It’s about connection, belonging, and being alongside one another, without pressure or expectation.

This is what Day Hospice is all about: creating space for people living with serious illness to connect in community, while providing planned, dependable respite for caregivers so they have time they can count on, knowing their loved one is well cared for.

The Hospice Hub would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Royal Canadian Legion Smiths Falls Branch 95 for their generous donation at their annual Jan 1 Levee.

Each year, Royal Canadian Legion Smiths Falls looks at the various charitable and not-for-profit organizations in Smiths Falls that are striving to help the people of our community with a view to providing them with some additional funding. This year, THH was among the group of organizations that they have chosen to support and we are so grateful.

Thank you to all who came to The Hospice Hub’s Evenings of Remembrance in Perth and Smiths Falls. Volunteers of The Hospice Hub along with community members shared a meaningful evening together. Both evenings provided song, story, poetry and candle lighting as we spoke the names of our loved ones who have died. May Courage, Confidentiality, Concern, Compassion and Community surround those who are grieving during the season and throughout the coming year.

Today at Day Hospice, we were lucky enough to receive handwritten hearts from our Hospice Hub volunteers; each one sharing what they bring to hospice and why they choose to be part of this work.

Over lunch, we took time to read the hearts aloud together, listening to the words, intentions, and values that guide our volunteers. It was a meaningful reminder that hospice is built on presence, compassion, and connection.

We are deeply grateful for the hearts, voices, and care our volunteers bring to our community. ❤

It's a chance to come together and reflect on the joy our loved ones brought to our lives, and the memories we shared with them.🌟
