📣Friendly Reminder! 📣

Our Day Program in Smiths Falls is accepting new clients for April 2026! This free program is designed for individuals living with a progressive, life-limiting or life-threatening illness.

Under the leadership of a Registered Nurse Coordinator and a dedicated team of highly trained, compassionate volunteers, the Day Hospice Program provides clients with a day away from their usual medical routines. In a home-like setting, clients can connect with others, participate in social activities, and enjoy a supportive space outside the home. Caregivers also benefit from the program by having time to rest and focus on self-care, knowing their loved one is well supported.

All services are provided at no cost, and transportation may be available when possible.

Please visit our website https://www.thehospicehub.ca/day-hospice for more details. 🔗

🗓 April is Advance Care Planning Month across Canada.

Advance care planning (ACP) is the process of thinking about what matters most to you in your life and what that means for your health and personal care. ACP helps you share your wishes and preferences with the people who are important to you so they can help make sure you get the care you want. 👨‍👩‍👦

The Hospice Hub offers free Advance Care Planning sessions throughout the year. For upcoming sessions, please keep an eye on our social media, visit our website or email education@thehospicehub.ca for ACP inquiries.

🌊💙 What an incredible wave of support! 💙🌊

We are truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of kindness and generosity from our community. To our dedicated participants, compassionate volunteers, supportive sponsors, and the media who helped share our story—thank you. You showed up, lifted us up, and made something truly meaningful happen.

Because of YOU, we didn’t just meet our goal, we exceeded it! Between the WAVES Luncheon and the WAVES Campaign, together we raised an amazing $23,122.60, WOW!

This campaign is a reflection of what’s possible when a community comes together with heart and purpose. It simply wouldn’t have been possible without each and every one of you.

As a small token of our appreciation, we’ve created a special musical tribute video, this is for you!

With deepest gratitude,
The Hospice Hub WAVES Committee

🌸A heartfelt thank you to Foodsmiths "The Good Food Store" for choosing The Hospice Hub as their April BYOB recipient. 🌸

For every transaction at the cash, Foodsmiths donates 5¢ to their monthly charity, plus all net proceeds from paper and reusable bag sales are donated to the charity, too! We are so grateful to be chosen this month and truly appreciate our partnerships with local businesses.

We didn't need a reason to love Foodsmiths even more, but knowing our grocery shops will go the extra mile this month, we're starting the car! 🚗🛒

🌊 Swimming with Purpose: Bill Elgie Making Waves for Hospice Care 💙

Some people swim for fitness. Others swim for focus.
And some, like Bill Elgie, swim with purpose, heart, and deep gratitude.

At 62, Bill is a semi-retired teacher, outdoor educator, and lifelong swimmer who now calls Tay Valley Township home with his wife, Leslie. A passionate canoe tripper and early-morning swimmer, Bill has spent decades in the water but this year, every stroke carries a much deeper meaning.

Bill joined WAVES for Hospice because it felt like a natural fit, he already swims three times a week (often more!). But what truly drives him is something far more personal.

In 2024, Bill and his wife experienced the loss of Leslie’s parents. In their final days, both were able to receive care at Ian Anderson House Hospice in Oakville. That experience left a lasting impact.

Bill shares that hospice was “such a blessing… for them, and for us as caregivers.”

In a time filled with uncertainty and emotion, hospice provided calm, compassion, and dignity. It allowed their family to shift focus from caregiving stress to simply being present with loved ones.

That’s why Bill is swimming.

Because hospice care matters not just for those at the end of life, but for every family walking alongside them.

💙 “Hospice programs give people valuable support and help ease the load of caregiving, so we can focus more on being present in their final days.”

And Bill has truly gone above and beyond for this cause.
What started as a 50 km goal quickly turned into 100 km and he’s already surpassed it with an incredible 118 km swum during the campaign! WOW!

Whether he’s powering through early morning laps or reflecting quietly in the water, Bill knows every stroke is making a difference.

💬 “It makes me feel good to know that my swimming can help support families in need.”

🌊 GOOD NEWS! We’re extending WAVES for Hospice until Friday, April 3rd! 🌊

There’s still time to support incredible participants like Bill.
