Foot soaking is still commonly associated with salon pedicures—but in medical foot care, it is not evidence-based practice.

At AFCN Learning Institute, we teach nurses why soaking feet is contraindicated and how dry care supports safer outcomes.

🚫 Why foot care nurses do NOT soak feet:

• Skin maceration & breakdown
Soaking over-softens the skin, increasing the risk of tearing, fissures, and post-treatment breakdown.

• Impaired clinical assessment
Water exposure turns the skin white and swollen, making it difficult to distinguish:
– Viable vs compromised tissue
– Callus vs maceration
– Early wounds, fissures, or infection

Accurate assessment requires dry, intact skin.

• Increased infection risk
Warm, moist environments promote bacterial and fungal growth—especially dangerous for clients with diabetes, vascular disease, or immunocompromise.

Transformation Thursday ✨

Today I had one of those moments that reminds me why I love what I do. A client came in with deep, painful cracked heels—something many people struggle with but often feel embarrassed to show.

Over two months of bi-weekly appointments, staying consistent with at-home care, increasing water intake, and using a urea-based moisturizer, we watched an incredible transformation unfold.

Those deep cracks softened, healed, and became smooth, healthy skin. I’m so proud of their dedication and so grateful to help someone feel comfortable and confident again.
Healing truly starts from the ground up. 👣💛

Winter Foot Care Tip ❄️🦶

Cold weather can leave your feet dry and uncomfortable, so a little extra care goes a long way. Always dry your feet thoroughly—especially between the toes—to prevent irritation and keep skin healthy.

Follow with a moisturizer that contains urea, which hydrates deeply and smooths rough, dry areas. At Steady Foot Care, we recommend applying it daily and slipping on cotton socks to lock in moisture.

Healthy, happy feet start with good winter habits.
