🚨 Fire Safety During Winter Storms ❄️

❄️ In Ontario winter storms can happen almost anywhere and cause major issues. Know what to do before, during and after a storm. This will help keep you and your family safe from a winter fire.

✅ Test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Do this at least once a month. This way you will know they are working. Ensure you have a working smoke and CO alarm on every level of your home. Carbon monoxide detectors must be mounted outside of sleeping areas and on every level of the home
✅ Plan two ways out of the home in case of an emergency.
✅ Clear driveway and front walk of ice and snow. This will provide easy access to your home.
✅ Make sure your house number can be seen from the street. If you need help, firefighters will be able to find you.
✅ Be ready in case the power goes out. Have flashlights on hand. Also have battery-powered lighting and fresh batteries. Never use candles.
✅ Stay aware of winter weather. Listen to the television or radio for updates. Watch for bulletins online.
✅ Check on neighbors. Check on others who may need help.
✅ Generators should be used outdoors. Keep them away from windows and doors. Do not run a generator inside your garage, even if the door is open.
✅ Stay away from downed wires. Report any downed wires to authorities.
✅ Be ready if the heat stops working. Use extra layers of clothes and blankets to stay warm. If you use an emergency heat source, keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away.
✅ Turn portable heaters off when you leave the room or go to bed.
‼️IMPORTANT REMINDER
There are more home fires in winter than in any other season. Half of all home heating fires happen in December, January and February.🔥

The prediction from Wiarton Willie is in and he’s calling for an early spring! 🌱
We’re hearing mixed reactions about this one. Some folks are still loving the snow ❄️, while others are more than ready to start gardening and hit the golf course 🏌🏽‍♂️.
Guess we’ll wait and see if Wiarton Willie got it right this year 😉

👋 Hello February! ❄️❤️

February may be a short month, but it’s shaping up to be a busy and exciting one! We have many groups scheduled to recertify their First Aid and CPR, and we’re also welcoming a few new groups joining us for the very first time. We love making new connections in our community. 🫶

We’ll be bundling up and hitting the roads throughout the Ottawa Valley, teaching in Arnprior, Deep River, Pembroke, Barry’s Bay, and nearby communities.

We hope February brings you a great month ahead.
Be prepared. Stay safe. ❤️⛑️

Wow! How is January already over? This month flew by!

We kicked off 2026 with an incredibly busy and rewarding month, delivering private first aid courses across Renfrew County, with a few public sessions sprinkled in as well. From Pembroke to Chalk River, and Petawawa to Killaloe, we had the privilege of visiting so many communities and working with amazing groups and businesses.

From BLS and Standard First Aid and Babysitting to CPR courses, January was full of learning, connection, and skill-building.
We experienced some snow days, a mix of a few surprisingly warm days, and plenty of freezing cold ones, but no matter the temperature, it was an incredible way to start the year. 🙌

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us into your spaces. Here’s to a strong start and an exciting year ahead! 🎉🚀

Canada feels like a freezer right now.🥶

If you’re braving the cold this weekend, make sure your outfit looks somewhat like this.⤵️

Remember: add layers, cover all exposed areas, and stay dry!

Today we had the privilege of delivering CPR training to a large group of future nurses.

Because of the size of the class, we had two instructors leading the day. ✌️

Thank you to everyone for your focus, participation, and commitment to your profession - keep shining, keep laughing. 🙂
