As a counsellor, I often get asked why men don't talk more or share their emotions. The truth is, men are all individuals with different backgrounds, support systems, and experiences. While men are often celebrated for stereotypical traits like strength and resilience, there is less room for vulnerability and asking for help. This makes it understandable why fewer men seek counseling. At Canadian Family Health, we aim to make starting these conversations easier through our neural network therapy approach, which provides the right tools and support for each client.

Chris Kirby EHP discusses Canada's Federal government's new men's and boys health strategy and why it's so important. I talk about how men are often programmed not to ask for help or express vulnerable emotions, and how this contributes to poor health outcomes. I emphasize that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and encourage men to seek support. I also invite anyone interested in emotional health support to connect with Canadian Family Health for a free 15 minute consultation.

Meet Melanie Brown 🤍

Melanie is a dedicated teacher and compassionate Emotional Health Practitioner with Canadian Family Health Counselling. With her background in education, she brings clarity, structure, and warmth to the therapeutic space, helping clients truly understand how their brain and nervous system respond to stress, trauma, and life transitions.

She is passionate about using practical, brain based tools rooted in Neural Network Therapy® so clients can gently rewire patterns that no longer serve them.

One of Melanie’s favourite teaching tools is the Crocodile Lesson 🐊

As a teacher, she loves how this simple but powerful metaphor helps clients understand the difference between their thinking brain and their survival brain. When we are triggered, it is often our crocodile brain taking over, reactive, protective, and fast. Melanie helps clients learn how to calm that survival response so they can access clarity, choice, and emotional regulation instead of reacting from fear.

Her approach is educational, empowering, and practical, giving clients real life tools they can use immediately.

Because when you understand your brain, you can change your brain.
