On International Women’s Day, we recognize the women who care for our communities every day.
According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, women make up over three-quarters of the health and social care workforce in Canada. They are the backbone of care here in Peterborough and across the country: our system relies on their tireless compassionate efforts to function. From nurses and social workers to physicians and registered dietitians, we want to acknowledge the expertise, dedication and leadership they bring to this industry.
Today, we celebrate the impact of women across healthcare, from early local trailblazers like Dr. Jessie Amelia Birnie, who pioneered baby health in Peterborough over a century ago, to the incredible women making a difference today.
