Remember when “Fat-Free” used to be all the rage?

Fat-free yogurt, fat-free candy, fat-free cereal … nearly every type of food in the grocery store had an option that was marketed as “fat-free” or “reduced fat”.

Essentially what this unfortunately meant was: overly processed and full of chemicals.

Thankfully, it`s becoming more common knowledge that wholesome fats are our friends and a good amount of dietary fat is essential for optimal health. This is a message we continue to spread.

✅ Our client`s meal plans typically include a healthy fat with nearly every meal or snack;

⁃avocado and seeds paired with protein for breakfast
⁃fruit and nuts for a snack
⁃chia seeds in afternoon protein shake
⁃fish oil supplement
⁃cooking with coconut oil

Healthy fats are essential for stable blood sugar, hormone production and function, deeper sleep, and more energy, and they create an internal environment that is optimized for losing fat.

❌ Fats to avoid include: canola oil, vegetable oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, peanut oil. margarine, safflower oils, vegan butter, grapeseed oil, vegetable shortening, and processed or fried foods.

You don’t need to be 💯 to change.

This client came in with low energy, poor sleep & wanted to get leaner for summer.

She was following a vegan diet but was open to eating meat.

So we started with her 5 Step Assessment.

We found:

1️⃣ She was severely under eating. Especially protein. And her food combinations weren’t great. This was causing her to have low energy throughout the day. RESULT: We got her eating 3 meals & 1-2 snacks a day to help balance blood sugar & insulin which provided her with more energy to get through her long days.

2️⃣ She was eating the furious 5 (wheat, dairy, sugar, soy, corn) & a lot of processed vegan foods which was raising her estrogen levels & causing havoc to her digestion. So we eliminated these things & introduced more single ingredient foods. RESULT: Her digestion & liver got a break and was able to break down foods better. Her waist & legs got leaner as a result.

3️⃣ Her sleep wasn’t great. She had trouble falling asleep, staying asleep & waking up. So we supplemented with magnesium bis-glycinate & Cenitol spilt up into 2 doses to help her nervous system calm down so she could fall asleep faster & sleep longer. RESULT: She was able to fall asleep faster & sleep longer without waking. This lowered her stress hormone so her body could lose weight.

This beautiful human hates salads 🤣
But guess what, it doesn’t matter because being healthy doesn’t require you to eat salad all dam day!

This avid golfer and basic veggie guy reached out because he was ready for change. He was struggling with poor sleep (waking 2x night) insulin dysfunction and was tired of those afternoon crashes.

We did his 5 Step Assessment to determine where we needed to focus the most and created his success plan. He is off to a great start to becoming a healthier version of himself.
I’d like to point out the less obvious but probably one of the most important steps to healing. “Reducing inflammation in the body”
When the body is severely inflamed, it makes every day chores uncomfortable and makes it very hard to heal. So this is what we are focusing on first.

Sleep: He’s waking 2x a night. This is an indication that his system is not running as efficiently as it should. He gets to bed on time at 10pm but his poor eating habits were creating an acidic environment and his liver is overworking. He may be getting the quality of sleep needed but the quality of sleep is not there. We eliminated inflammatory foods to ease the load on the liver so his quality of sleep improves.

Food Combination: Being a master hormone we are going after insulin. He skipped meals often and when he did eat, it included the furious 5. We’ve eliminated dairy, gluten, soy, corn and refined sugar and have him eating every 2.5-3 hours to help manage his insulin better.

Stomach Acid: We tested his stomach acid to see if he needed help digesting his fats and proteins. He did and since he’s not digesting these very important macro nutrients, his nutrient absorption will be poor also. Another stress on the body. We have him supplements with digestive enzymes.

He is only 6 weeks in and making significant progress. I am so proud of him for his dedication to self. His willingness to change far outweighs his lack of love for the greens.

We don't breathe..⁣

No one teaches us to breathe. And it's a funny thought because we all just start breathing once we are born. ⁣
I remember my eldest daughter not taking a breath right away when she was born. ( She did eventually thank God). But it was such an assumption that she should. ⁣

But in reality her engine fired up for the first time technically that way, in this environment. Imagine all the things that had to happen for that first breath to be executed on time and without issue. So she could LIVE.⁣

As we grow up, unless you are in sports, drama or martial arts. Many of us never had anyone teach ua how our breath affects our life. ⁣

Because it's so automatic like sleep and so many things, we forget that the type and quality matters. ⁣

Breathing from our diaphragm, which I learned when I started meditating calmed my mind and brought me back to my body. ⁣

It allowed me to observe discomfort and live between it and what I called reality. ⁣

My son who is an amazingly talented runner, said he learned at a young age how to control his breathing so he could run faster, further without fatiguing.⁣

I've also seen my youngest daughter before a difficult gymnastics routine, take deep and slow breaths to calm her nerves and get her settled so she could focus.⁣

My wife who is a firefighter, controls her breathing, to control her mind in a fire, so she doesn't run out of air too quickly.⁣

Even myself I've learned to speed up and intensify my breath before a heavy lift in the gym. ⁣

So we know breath can affect:⁣
• Our energy⁣
• Our focus⁣
• Our endurance⁣
• Our perception⁣
• Our emotions⁣
• Our sleep⁣
• Our decision making⁣
• Our state⁣

So making it a focus is key to controlling our life and letting go in life when we need to.⁣

Practice breath work each day.⁣

• When you get up⁣
• In cold showers⁣
• When tensions rise in relationships⁣
• When you are getting ready for bed⁣

These are all areas to observe and practice your breath.⁣

Yes breath is life. But the quality of it will dictate the quality of our life too.🙏🏾⁣

Experimenting with different recipes is the key to maintaining this healthy lifestyle. If you don’t enjoy the food you’re eating, you’ll want to reach for j***y, processed, foods. ⁣

Our clients receive ALOT of different recipes that are based on organic animal proteins, quality fats and carbs. ⁣

Here’s a favourite:⁣

BUFFALO CHICKEN MEATBALLS⁣

Ingredients:⁣

• 1 lb. organic, local ground chicken ⁣
• 1 Organic Egg, beaten⁣
• 1 Green Onion, minced⁣
• 1 Celery Stalk, minced⁣
• 2 Garlic Cloves, minced⁣
• 1/4 cup Coconut Flour⁣
• 1 tsp Onion Powder⁣
• 1/2 tsp Paprika⁣
• 3/4 cup Buffalo Sauce or Hot Pepper Sauce⁣
• Sea salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper⁣

Preparation:⁣

1. Preheat oven to 400 F.⁣
2. In a bowl combine all ingredients, except the hot sauce, and season to taste.⁣
3. Mix everything until well combined, add more coconut flour if the mixture if too runny.⁣
4. Form small balls, about 1 inch in diameter and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.⁣
5. Cook in the oven 30 to 35 minutes, or until cooked through and no longer pink.⁣
6. Gently toss the meatballs with the buffalo sauce, and heat another 4 to 5 minutes in the oven.⁣
7. Serve with fresh celery sticks and homemade ranch sauce.⁣

Are your pots/pans as healthy as your food?

My whole life, what I ate has mattered. As I learned more about food, the quality went up.
• Regular store bought.. to..
• organic..to..
• pasture raised and grass finished
• As well less processed
• Allergen free etc.

But what about what I'm cooking my food in. Shouldn't that matter?

Absolutely!

Especially if we are cooking daily. Over time, our cooking surfaces can affect US, if we aren't careful.

Let's go over things to 👀 for.

NONSTICK COOKWARE:
1) while convenient, they usually contain
perfluorochemicals. Which enough research has shown to affect
a) liver function/cholesterol issues
b) development/growth
c) reproduction
d) cancer
e) health- stays in body
f) weakens immunity/thyroid

So keep an eye on
🥊Silicone cookware ( has rubber in it)
🥊Nonstick
🥊Aluminum

Stick more to these kinds:

1) Cast iron - champion of all cookware.
2) Stainless steel- a nice second place.
3) Glass- great for baking and oven use.

If every time we cook, a little bit of that substance goes into our food and into us. Over time these can cause changes or challenges that we are unaware of.

It isn't about being nervous about everything. It's about reducing as much toxic material. So you can live your best life. Not necessarily your easiest life, but your best. 🤓
