Shelby Ranch is located at 753 Durham Road in Scotsburn, Nova Scotia. We are a Western riding facility that offers a variety of services for beginner to intermediate riders from ages 2 to senior. Ride one of our safe, patient horses in our indoor arena or explore beautiful forest trails. Send us a message to book a private or small-group riding lesson or trail ride, available 7 days a week. Ask us about our lesson packages, therapeutic riding program, wagon and sleigh rides, riding membership, and birthday parties.

Spring is right around the corner… the days are getting longer, and that fresh ranch air is calling your name. ☀️

At Shelby Ranch, we offer a flexible Horse Leasing Program with two options:

Up to 2 rides per week
Unlimited rides

Leasing is perfect for riders who want more time in the saddle, to build confidence, create a bond with a horse, and enjoy the freedom of riding without owning your own horse.

March 1st already… where did February go?! ❄️

With all this beautiful snow, we’ve been BUSY with sleigh rides and the month absolutely flew by! Thank you to everyone who came out to experience the ranch this winter 🤍

There’s more snow in the forecast this week and we’re hoping for another 3 weeks (or so!) of perfect sleigh ride weather before spring officially takes over.

Spring may be around the corner… but winter magic isn’t over yet!

As we’re out doing chores and digging ourselves out of the snow, Phillip’s tail is giving us a little light at the end of the tunnel.

Peacocks lose their long, beautiful trains before winter… and regrow them in the spring.

And just look at his now 👀✨ It’s starting to fill back in.

It’s a quiet reminder that no matter how deep the snow feels, spring is closer than we think. 🌷☀️

Meet Rocky 🐴🤎

Our gentle, caring giant.

Rocky is the definition of steady. Easy going. Laid back. Unbothered. He doesn’t get excited, doesn’t step out of line, and never gives his humans any sass. A true gentleman through and through.

Now… Ruby might try to set him up from time to time, he’s a follower and she’s definitely the instigator. 😏 But even then, Rocky just goes along for a moment and then settles right back into his calm, cool, collected self.

When his feed kicks in, you might see a tiny burst of friskiness a quick little “I feel good!” moment and then just like that… he’s back to being solid as a stone.

His name couldn’t be more fitting.
He’s our rock.

The foundation of our wagon and sleigh ride program, the steady heartbeat of so many magical winter memories and in the summer, you’ll find him just as dependable out on the trails taking care of his riders.
