Shelby Ranch is located at 753 Durham Road in Scotsburn, Nova Scotia. We are a Western riding facility that offers a variety of services for beginner to intermediate riders from ages 2 to senior. Ride one of our safe, patient horses in our indoor arena or explore beautiful forest trails. Send us a message to book a private or small-group riding lesson or trail ride, available 7 days a week. Ask us about our lesson packages, therapeutic riding program, wagon and sleigh rides, riding membership, and birthday parties.

Emmanuel has officially enrolled in piano lessons.

Why? Because emus are incredibly curious, interactive birds—they love sounds, movement, and being right in the middle of whatever you’re doing. If there’s action, Emmanuel is in it. If there’s noise, he’s investigating. If there’s a piano… well… clearly it needs an emu’s supervision 😆

Emus are known for:
Big personalities
Serious curiosity
Following humans everywhere
Acting like they run the place

One of our tallest and most curious residents at Shelby Ranch petting pens, and he’s ready to meet YOU this holiday season!

Here are some fun facts about emus (Emmanuel approved ✔️):

✨ Emus are the second-largest bird in the world (only ostriches are taller!)
✨ They can run up to 50 km/h — don’t challenge Emmanuel to a race 😆
✨ Emus can’t fly, but they have powerful legs and love to explore
✨ They make deep drumming and booming sounds (if you hear drumming around the ranch, it’s Emmanuel he loves making music)
✨ Emus are incredibly curious and LOVE when visitors come say hello

✔️ Animals to visit indoors & outdoors
✔️ Most activities are inside – perfect for winter days
