The Ontario Public Health Standards are published by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care under the authority of section 7 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. The Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) and Protocols establish the minimum requirements for fundamental public health programs and services, which include:

assessment and surveillance
health promotion and policy development
disease and injury prevention

Suspension Orders have been mailed to parents and guardians whose child’s immunization record or valid exemption has not been reported to public health.

The Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) requires proof of certain vaccines or a valid exemption for students’ school attendance. Reporting now can help avoid suspension.

UPDATE - Feb. 11, 2026: Lambton Public Health has been in contact with the owners of the dogs in question.

Lambton Public Health is seeking information about the location of two dogs and their three owners following a dog bite incident that occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, on the Howard Watson Trail, close to Huron Baptist Church. The dogs are described as black, brown, and white Bernese Mountain dogs with leashes, and were being walked by a man and two women.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and Lambton County’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Karalyn Dueck, have issued a Cold Weather Alert for the region based on the latest forecast from ECCC predicting the temperature to meet the threshold of -15°C overnight. The alert is expected to remain in effect until Sunday, Feb. 8, and may also extend to Monday, Feb. 9.
