SOMATIC HEALING

What causes trauma?

Trauma is caused by the unprocessed energy from an overwhelming experience, where we have been unable to release the energy created by our sympathetic nervous systems ‘fight or flight’ response.

Break down the word EMOTION
E - Energy
M - Motion

This energy is no longer in motion, it’s stored in our soma (body).

Traumatised people live in a state of hyper or hypo vigilance (dysregulated nervous system), remaining very cognitive and disembodied, as a means of avoiding the pain.

Somatic Healing takes us into the body to experience the felt sense, from a safe place.

As we grow in capacity to sit with our dis-ease, the less likely we are to be triggered and end up in overwhelm.

This can be achieved by undergoing a soft tissue therapy treatment and simply focussing on what is felt, with a possible root cause identified post session, or via embodied processing.

Embodied Processing is finding a place of safety (resource), to work from, and ultimately, in the simplest terms possible, making peace with your inner disturbance all via the felt sense sensations.

Traumatised people may have never experienced safety within their own body, so whilst the above statement sounds easy and logical, it’s an incredible deep dive into personal growth and development, not a magical quick fix.
