Hospice Muskoka's Executive Director, Donna Kearney, celebrated Nurse Practitioner Week by reconnecting with two of her preceptors from her time as a nursing student. Nurses Ruth and Diane, demonstrated a philosophy of care that Donna has carried with her throughout her 25 year career, putting her on a path to excellence in nursing and leadership. Thank you to Ruth and Diane, and all the incredible Nurses out there for your care and mentorship.

You may have heard that Advance Care Planning aims to capture your wishes for your future health care, should anything happen to you. Perhaps it's not something you want to think about or aren't sure where to start.

Here are a few prompts from the Advance Care Planning guide to help you start thinking about your wishes:
➡️ What does a great day look like for you?
➡️ What activities do you love to do?
➡️ What/who do you turn to during difficult times?
➡️ Do you have any beliefs (religious/spiritual) or traditions that are important to you?

If you were to get sick:
➡️ What aspects of your life or activities would you like to maintain?
➡️ What does privacy look like for you?
➡️ What kind of support would you find helpful? (practical, social, physical)

These are just a few questions to get you started. If you'd like to learn more or start your ACP journey, get in touch! Hospice Muskoka can guide you through the process at no cost:

Happy Nurse Practitioners Week!

At Hospice Muskoka – Andy’s House, our Nurse Practitioners lead our team, guide our organization, and walk alongside individuals and their families from diagnosis to end-of-life, providing compassionate and dignified care every step of the way, including bereavement support.

Executive Director Donna Kearney, NP, and Medical Director Christine Degan, NP, work diligently to uphold Hospice Muskoka’s reputation for outstanding clinical care and to ensure Andy’s House remains a welcoming, supportive place for those navigating life-limiting illness and their loved ones.

Heather Jamieson, NP extends that same standard of care into the community—offering comfort, guidance, and support to individuals and families in their own homes.

This week—and every week—we honour Nurse Practitioners for their dedication, leadership, and for walking alongside individuals and families with compassion, dignity, and unwavering care at every stage of their journey.
