Métis artist Jaime Black inspired the red dress movement with her REDress art installation - made up of 600 community-donated red dresses placed in public spaces across Canada to shed light on the crisis of MMIWG2S. Twelve years later, the red dress has become a visual reminder of the pain and loss felt by MMIWG2S, survivors and their families.

Check out “box breathing” 💨

There are many ways to combat feelings of anxiety. One helpful technique recommended by the team at Riverside Counselling is to practice box breathing, which regulates and calms your autonomic nervous system.

First begin by sitting upright in a relaxed position and slowly exhale all your breath from your mouth. Then slowly inhale through your nose while counting to four. Hold your breath for four seconds and then slowly exhale for four seconds, and hold again for four seconds.

Repeat this process 5 times and notice if there is a shift in your system. If you are still feeling anxious, continue to repeat these steps until your body and mind feel more relaxed.

Box breathing is a breathing technique that you can incorporate into a daily routine and that you can practice anywhere and anytime.
