So, still here!

A reminder to all of those without a family doctor, or with a family doctor out of region, to register on Health Care Connect!

Our number of patients without access to care is staggering, but on paper, we only have about 16 people registered on HCC! We will never get funding for a new doctor or NP if we can't show that many people are waiting!

Did you know most insurance companies require you to see a primary provider at LEAST 5 months before departing the country for sunny destinations?!

That means if you are planning to go south for the winter, NOW is the time to schedule your visit!

We will do a comprehensive medical review and assessment at your first visit, and visit again just before you leave to make sure your health care is covered while you're away!

Please ensure you check with your policy holder before booking your winter getaway!

The look I give you when you tell me you don't wear sunscreen...

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer and one of the most preventable!

The American Academy of Dermatology has a great outline of all skin cancer types:

Melanoma is much less common than the other types but much more likely to invade nearby tissue and spread to other parts of the body. Most deaths from skin cancer are caused by melanoma. How to check a suspicious spot or mole? Remember the ABCDEs of melanoma. ABCDE stands for asymmetry, border, color, diameter and evolving.

If you have any concerns about a new, or changing, spot or mole, get in to see your health care provider!

But prevention is always preferred - and 90% of melanomas can be prevented by wearing sunscreen!

So cover up, wear sunscreen, and get outside to enjoy this beautiful spring weather!

Did you know you can do some simple, close-to-home checks to determine your risk for heart disease (including hypertension) and stroke?

✅ Check your blood pressure at your local pharmacy
✅ Review your family history: 40% of heart disease risk is hereditary
✅ Check your waist, if there's more fat around your middle than around your hips, you're at higher risk
✅ Better yet, get out your measuring tape. Risk increases with a waist size that is greater than 35" for women and greater than 40" for men
