Many patients struggle to find an available RMT, and it’s no surprise—most are booked weeks or months in advance. But why?
A massage appointment involves more than just hands-on treatment. There’s paperwork, cleaning, billing, reports, and laundry. A 60-minute session can take 90 minutes, meaning full-time RMTs typically see only 5 to 6 clients per day. Many also work part-time, reducing availability further.
Massage therapy is physically demanding, with repetitive motions leading to strain and injury. Many RMTs leave the profession within five years. To prevent burnout, therapists limit their schedules, which impacts appointment availability.
Demand peaks at certain times, like the end of the year when patients use up insurance benefits. Last-minute openings are rare, so pre-booking ensures consistent care—leading to better results for pain relief, stress management, and injury prevention.
If you can’t get an appointment, ask to be placed on a cancellation list, and in the meantime, your RMT may suggest stretches or self-care techniques to help manage discomfort.
By planning ahead, you’ll keep massage therapy a regular part of your health routine.
