Thank you to everyone in our community who supported Oak Ridges Hospice during our 2025 Holiday Match Campaign. Your generosity made this season truly meaningful, and we are deeply grateful to every donor who contributed.

We are also proud to recognize Donna & David Cooper, whose extraordinary generosity helped make the campaign even more impactful. After learning about the campaign, they committed to matching $75,000 in donations and later increased their commitment to match all gifts made by December 31, 2025.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, the campaign raised more than $118,000 in donations. Donna & David doubled every gift, bringing the total impact to over $236,000 in support of compassionate hospice care.

Having experienced the loss of loved ones themselves, Donna & David understand how meaningful hospice care can be for individuals and families during life’s most difficult moments. They hope this campaign will inspire our community to continue to give and ensure that compassionate hospice care can continue for individuals and families when they need it most.

We are deeply grateful for their kindness, leadership, and belief in our mission. Because of Donna & David and everyone who gave this holiday season, hope and care reached twice as far. Thank you!

Please join us in congratulating Ken Eaton, who has been selected as this year’s recipient of the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers award. This is a tremendous honour and a well-deserved recognition of Ken’s dedication, compassion, and commitment to hospice care.

This prestigious award recognizes hospice volunteers across Ontario who exemplify the spirit of compassion, generosity, and service that lies at the heart of hospice work. We are very proud to have Ken represent our hospice and our community through this meaningful recognition.

Ken has been an incredible part of the Oak Ridges team, making a meaningful impact as a Kitchen, Maintenance, Volunteer Trainer, and Community Ambassador Volunteer. In his short 2 years, has contributed over 900 hours of service!

He brings genuine care and attention to every interaction. Whether with residents, staff, volunteers, or families, Ken has a remarkable ability to make each person feel seen, heard, and supported. In the kitchen, he prepares meals thoughtfully, often adding a personal touch that residents notice and appreciate.

Ken’s awareness, kindness, and hands-on approach help keep everything running smoothly. His contributions consistently reflect the values of Oak Ridges, bringing warmth, dedication, and a positive spirit to every part of his work.

Thank you, Ken, for everything you do!

Our Story

The story of Oak Ridges Hospice is one of dedication and passion. This initiative is being led by a diverse and committed group of individuals who share in the belief of the importance of high quality palliative care and support to those members of our community facing the unique challenges encountered towards end-of-life. A decade ago, Port Perry physician, Dr. Steven Russell, recognized a pressing need in the community for patients with life-threatening illnesses to be provided with an alternative to spending their final days in hospital or at home. Dr. Russell called together a group of local citizens and healthcare advocates to investigate the possibility of bringing a residential hospice facility to Uxbridge and Port Perry. Together they formed the North Durham Residential Hospice Committee (NDRHC) and worked collaboratively with Durham Hospice from 2008-2013 on this special initiative. Despite their commitment and enthusiasm, their plans were put on hold due to the challenges of raising sufficient capital and operating funds. Thankfully, in 2015, two local philanthropists, Mr. Kevin Morgan and Mr. Dave Sidhu, became aware of the need for a Residential Hospice in Durham Region and together they formed The Morgan & Sidhu Family Hospice Ltd., jointly pledging $2 million dollars as a generous and foundational gift. In late 2015, the North Durham Residential Hospice Committee partnered with The Morgan & Sidhu Family Hospice organization and through our collaborative spirit, we have rapidly gained momentum towards accomplishing our shared vision. In 2016, a new Board of Directors was formed and our organization was granted charitable status. Shortly thereafter, we rebranded as Oak Ridges Hospice of Durham Ltd and our volunteer team has since grown to include community members with knowledge and experience in the fields of primary and palliative care, healthcare administration, residential hospice operations, business management, finance and community relations. Our board has worked diligently with the Central East Local Health Integration Network (CE LHIN) to gain allocation for operational funding through the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC). In early 2017, we were delighted to receive confirmation of funding for a 5 bed hospice to be located in North Durham. We are thrilled to announce that we have secured property in Port Perry on which to build our hospice facility, and are now embarking on the planning and design phase of our project.
