It's been a while since we did a volunteer shout-out and we finally caught up to this busy lady...

Meet Ginger!

We've known Ginger for many, many years from her longtime dedication to delivering Meals On Wheels in the South River Sundridge Area, and as a former member of the Eastholme Board of Management.

Having lived in Sundridge almost her whole life, Ginger is very involved with her community. She is a member of the Zion United Church; the Sundridge Happy Gang; and the Sundridge Horticultural Society.

Prior to retirement, she spent many years as a travelling nurse working in such places as Deep River; Fort Frances; Wawa; Moose Factory - as well as nursing on-site at the St. Joseph's Hospital in North Bay and the Burk's Falls Hospital.

However, Ginger's greatest joy has been playing taxi driver to her grandkids shuttling them to and from their extra curricular activities, and she is super-proud of their accomplishments.

If you are as amazing as Ginger is, and want to make a difference in your community, contact us to find out how you can become a volunteer. Call 705-724-6028 or email lprice@eastholme.ca

What better way to work on balance and strength for falls prevention than attending our FREE Stay On Your Feet community exercise classes!

This enthusiastic group had a ton of fun last Friday in South River (as they do every Friday) πŸ™ƒ

These classes are held weekly all year round featuring regular instructors as well as guest instructors to keep things moving and to add variety.

Classes are available to all older adults who want to remain active and steady on their feet. And you don't have to be of a certain fitness level to participate.

Balance isn't good? Perfect... that's why we do the class!

Feeling stiff, sore, and have arthritis? Not a problem... just another reason to get your body moving! (plus most people experience this)

Can't stand for long periods or get down on the ground and back up again? No worries... that's what chairs are for!

(Plus we actually should be practicing the techniques of how to get up from the ground in case it happens in real life)

Modifications can be provided for those who may not be as mobile. Instructors will work with all participants to make sure everyone who is willing is included!

Best part is classes are drop-in style so there is no commitment and they are FREE!

Wow what a week this has been! πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

With highway closures resulting in people being stuck waiting in their vehicles for hours... whiteout conditions making it nearly impossible to navigate where you're going... having to take detours... needing to turn around when unable to keep going... volunteers stepping up at the last minute to help out where needed... trying our best to still get people to and from their very important medical appointments or deliver their meals to them despite all the roadblocks and monkey wrenches thrown everyone's way... having to reschedule or come up with alternative solutions because there were no other options when these challenges presented themselves...

We want to give a HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers who are amazing and who work with us to deal with all of these complications. We also want the clients to know that their patience and understanding is appreciated.

Although this is all a part of living where we do and we aren't able to control the weather or road conditions, we still want everyone to know that we see you and we don't take any of your awesomeness for granted. We truly have the BEST team of people πŸ₯°
