If you need to travel out of town for medical appointments whether you drive yourself, go with us, or get there some other way, you may be eligible for the Northern Health Travel Grant!

Find the forms online, get them from your doctor's office, or we can print one for you.

For clarification, we don't fill out the forms or sign them as they have nothing to do with our program, but we can assist you if you have questions. However, your best bet is to contact the travel grant office directly so that they can help you.

Once you fill the forms out send them to the travel grant office so they can hopefully send you $$ to help offset the cost of your travel!

It took a bit for us to connect with this dynamic duo to get their photo, but we finally did...

Meet Derek & Tiffany!

When this lovely couple isn't busy working shift work at Kimberly-Clark, planning their wedding taking place next June, or looking after their two Jack Russells, they are volunteering for us!

Since 2019/20 they've been delivering meals in Burk's Falls and surrounding area on multiple occasions each and every month.

Having grown up in the Almaguin Highlands, Derek and Tiffany are very familiar with the lay of the land which definitely helps out especially on our very rural back roads.

You see our meal delivery is not limited to town-proper, so having reliable volunteers willing to deliver to some of the further-out locations is very important. And these two do a great job doing it. They divide and conquer, splitting the route into two to provide efficient delivery service!

They also enjoy spending time in the great outdoors camping, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling.

It's truly refreshing and admirable to see a young couple like Derek and Tiffany giving back to their community and knowing the importance of it. This one hits hard...

We have worked with so many wonderful volunteers over the years, and it's always difficult when you lose one of them as some really do feel like family.

Merlyn Snow (who sadly passed away on December 6th) was an incredibly kind man who, alongside his wife Ila, was a pillar of his community and a huge part of our program looking after South River/Sundridge Meals On Wheels for many years, as well as the seniors lunch in Sundridge.

In fact, it was just a couple years ago that they retired from volunteering for us. And we have stayed in touch as Merlyn struggled with his health and fought so hard to get well. With Ila by his side every step of the way providing loving encouragement and caregiving.

In addition to his volunteer work with us, Merlyn was also a member of council with the Township of Strong, a volunteer firefighter, a hockey coach, and most importantly a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

I would always joke with Merlyn and Ila that if I didn't already have parents I'd like them to adopt me (to which Ila would reply... that would be ok with her, as she never had any girls😉)

We know Merlyn's family, friends, former co-workers at the IGA/Foodland, and many others in the community will miss him terribly.

And we will miss him as part of our family here at CSS 💔

Mark your calendars as there are BIG things happening in Powassan this coming weekend!!

Friday night is Eastholme's Winter Wonderland followed by the Parade of Lights on Saturday night.

Eastholme's 3rd Annual Winter Wonderland is full of lights, vendors, and holiday magic - including a visit from Santa himself!

Our Powassan & South River locations are already FULL and we have started a wait list. If you signed up and aren't able to make it please call to cancel so that we can call the wait list people.

Keep in mind that most of these locations are operated by volunteers/limited help to prepare and serve the meals, therefore they can only accommodate so many meals with what help they have.

There are still spots left in Callander/Sprucedale/Kearney. Call to reserve yours!
