We are honoured to share that Miklat has successfully completed our very first sweat.

This was a powerful and deeply meaningful moment for our little recovery community—grounded in humility, healing, and connection. We extend our sincere gratitude to John Louie for his guidance, generosity, and leadership in making this possible.

We also wish to acknowledge, honour, and show deep respect to the First Nations peoples. We recognize that these teachings and ceremonies come from Indigenous cultures and are only possible through the trust, permission, and stewardship of Indigenous Knowledge Keepers. We are grateful to walk this path with respect and responsibility.

With humility and gratitude, we look forward to continuing this work in a good way.

Graduation Day at Miklat!

Today we are celebrating two remarkable graduates—Gus and Jason—and three months of grit, growth, and real transformation.

Gus has been a steady force of leadership from day one. A natural role model and a gifted speaker (that Christmas speech still gets talked about), he has consistently given back through volunteering and by being an active part of the local church family. Gus leads by example—quietly, generously, and with purpose—and the ripple effect of that leadership is felt throughout our community.

Jason showed us what resilience truly looks like. Facing an ACL surgery midway through treatment would test anyone—but Jason met that challenge head-on. With determination (and a good sense of humour intact), he pushed through recovery while staying committed to his program. A heartfelt thank you to Recovery Victoria for graciously providing a space in their beautiful sober living home and for ensuring Jason got home safely from the hospital. We’re happy to report he’s recovering well, on schedule, and continuing to thrive in sober living.

To everyone involved—staff, supports, partners, and peers—thank you for standing alongside these men. And to Gus and Jason: congratulations on your graduation. You’ve earned every bit of this moment. Onward and upward.

We’re so excited to share the speaker video from our Merry Miklat Christmas Dinner, just in time for Christmas! 🎥✨ It’s an incredible reminder of the heart, courage, humour, and hope that filled the room that night. The stories shared were powerful and deeply moving, a true celebration of recovery, resilience, and community. ❤️

Unfortunately, we did run into a bit of a Grinch-like moment with our GoPro, 😅 it shut off partway through a few speeches. We want to extend a sincere apology to Pastor Lucas, Sam Hall, and Jesse Lamb. We are so sorry that your amazing words weren’t captured on video. Your messages mattered deeply to everyone in the room, and we’re truly grateful for the heart you shared with our community.

This is all part of the learning journey, much like recovery itself. We grow, we adapt, and we’ll do everything we can to capture it all properly next year. 📷💪

✨🎄 A Merry Miklat Christmas Dinner – What a Night! 🎄✨

What an absolutely incredible evening of warmth, connection, and community. Our Merry Miklat Christmas Dinner was everything we hoped for and more — filled with amazing speakers, incredible food, and a room full of people who truly believe in recovery and in one another. ❤️

To our inspirational speakers — thank you for sharing your stories with honesty, courage, and heart. You reminded us all why this work matters and why hope is always worth holding onto.

To everyone who donated silent auction items, purchased tickets, and gave so generously — your support directly strengthens recovery in our community, and we are deeply grateful. The generosity in that room was nothing short of humbling.

A huge thank you to our kitchen staff for serving an outstanding meal and to the organizers and volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make the night flow so smoothly. These events don’t happen without countless hours of dedication and care.

A very special thank you to Evangel Pentecostal Church for welcoming us into their space, and to Lucas and Lisa Mitchell for being such tremendous supporters of Miklat and our mission — your kindness and commitment mean more than words can say.

We are continually reminded that Miklat is more than a program — it’s a community, and nights like this show just how strong that community truly is. Thank you all for making this Christmas season one filled with hope, generosity, and connection. 💫

We’re marking 50 incredible years of community, connection, and recreation at the Powell River Recreation Complex — and you’re invited to join us for a full week of fun!

Between December 8–13, we’ve lined up activities for all ages, including FREE swims, FREE skates, FREE gym time, crafts, retro fitness, holiday fun, giveaways, and even a special JAWS in the pool movie night!

We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Wow, what a magical night that was!
