The purpose of this page is to provide reliable and accurate information about matters relating to healthcare in the qathet/Powell River area. We welcome questions, comments and interactions from the community or any physicians/nurse practitioners interested in practicing in our area. INFO FOR PHYSICIANS: The region’s private practices vary greatly in both hours and size — from two to 16 physicians. Focus solely on your GP practice or compliment it by working in Emergency, Anesthesia, Maternity, as well as joining the rotating OR assist schedule.

Under new BC Employment Standards Act rules, if you're sick or taking care of a sick child and it's your first or second time staying home for five days or less in a year, you don’t need a sick note.

If you and your family are new to qathet, the Health Connect Registry is the fastest way to get connected with a local healthcare provider.

Follow these three steps to register:

1️⃣ Go to the Health Connect website: healthlinkbc.ca/find-care/health-connect-registry

2️⃣ Fill out the form: be ready with your and your family's personal health numbers, your home address, and an email or phone number where you can be contacted.

3️⃣ Wait to be contacted: someone from our team will reach out when a family physician or nurse practitioner is available.

Tuesday, September 30th is Truth and Reconciliation Day in Canada. This day is meant for us to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, while also honoring the survivors, their families, and communities.

If you'd like to learn more about the history of residential schools, colonialism, and what Canada is doing to repair its relationship with Indigenous peoples, www.nctr.ca is an excellent resource.
