4️⃣ TIPS FOR YOUR HEARING AIDS🦻

Hearing aids are quite durable. However, it is important to take care of them to ensure they work the best for you! Here are a few simple tips for daily care:

▫️Avoid moisture. Hearing aids are water resistant but not water proof. It’s a good idea to keep hearing aids away from areas with a lot of liquids, like bathrooms or kitchens.
▫️Avoid hair products. If you use hair spray or other hair products it is a good idea to put your hearing aids on after using these products. Hair spray and other products can cause build up on the hearing aid microphones, which can cause problems with sound quality.
▫️Keep hearing aids away from children and pets. Small children and animals may think hearing aids look like a toy or a tasty treat. To avoid damage or loss of hearing aids it is a good idea to keep them out of reach of little ones or pets!
▫️Keep hearing aids in the same place. To avoid hearing aids being misplaced it is a good idea to keep your aids in the same spot every time they are not on your ears. If rechargeable, on the charger. If battery operated, in the hearing aid case.

✅ FACT CHECK👂

A common myth is that hearing aids are only for severe hearing loss, when in fact hearing aids can help all levels of hearing loss!

Many factors come into play when thinking about hearing aids, including the amount of loss someone may have. But other factors, such as lifestyle, individual readiness, financials, and more are always considered.

The best thing we can do for our hearing health is to have regular hearing tests completed to monitor our hearing ability!

🇧🇴 INTERNATIONAL HEARING CARE 🇨🇦

In January 2026 one of our audiologists was able to provide hearing health care to locals in Bolivia. This humanitarian work was in collaboration with The Canadian Society for the Development, Aid, and Sustainable Health Abroad (CanDASHA).

During this work our audiologist, alongside other volunteers including other audiologists were able to help 80 individuals and fit 70 sets of hearing aids!

Hearing health care is important for everyone at all different ages regardless of where we are in the world. If you have questions about how you can donate to CanDASHA visit their website at https://www.candasha.org/ or reach out to us at the clinic!

🐝 TINNITUS👂

Tinnitus is the presence of a sound in the ears or head when there is no sound occurring around you.

Tinnitus is unique to each person who experiences it. It can be a constant sound or come and go. It can also be described as many different sounds such as ringing, buzzing, hissing, pulsing, or more!

It is important to know that tinnitus is a common symptom but not a condition itself. A great place to start if you have tinnitus is to have your hearing tested. At Carlton Trail Hearing Clinic our audiologists have extra training in tinnitus knowledge and treatment and we would be happy to help you understand your tinnitus more!

👂DID YOU KNOW?❄️

As we all can feel we have been going through a cold snap recently! But did you know that cold weather can affect your hearing aid batteries, even rechargeable?

It is absolutely okay, and encouraged, to wear your hearing aids even when it is cold outside, but we suggest protecting your ears and your hearing aid batteries from the cold. A toque, earmuffs, or even a hood can be helpful to protect your hearing aids from the winter weather. 🥶

And of course when taking off your head wear it is important to be mindful of your hearing aids. Hearing aids can become caught on knit materials.

We hope you stay nice and warm this January!

💡FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS❓

QUESTION: Do I have to wear my hearing aids all of the time?

ANSWER: Yes! We hear with our brains, not just our ears. This means it is important that our brains receive the same, consistent information - such as wearing your hearing aid all waking hours. Consistent hearing aid use helps to keep our brains sharp and hearing the best they can!

🧠 DID YOU KNOW?👂

Did you know your ears never turn ‘off’, even when you are asleep?

Hearing and listening are two different things. We hear everything around us, but our brain only listens to what it thinks is important or what we want to focus on. We can think of hearing as something we do passively without thinking BUT listening is something we have to actively do!
